Chapter Thirty-Eight

-------------------------------------

Chris's POV

--

God damn it.

I hate when MaKayla is away from my side; she gets me so worried.

She may be gone already...

I looked over at Stephanie, worried. Almost as worried as me, I think. No, she can't be THAT worried.

"Stephanie.."

"Stay with me here, Chris!" she screamed, jumping onto me. We were in a small store; the aroma of unlit candles, coffee mix, and old candies filled the air. I almost gagged every time I breathed.

"St-Stephanie," I stuttered. "I have to find MaKayla!"

"I SAID DON'T LEAVE ME!"

I slapped her; I am done with her, she is not my best friend; she never was. She's annoying. And she won't get in my way of helping MaKayla; sure I was destroyed about Alexis's death, I mean, who wouldn't be? But MaKayla, she's different. MaKayla.. Well people want to cut her open and dissect her like a frog in biology when she's just a normal human with... Superhuman abilities.

"Stephanie, why the fuck did we even hang out? Stephanie, five minutes ago you said you wanted me to find MaKayla. Now, bitch, you're telling me not to leave your side when MaKayla's probably dead?!? Make up your mind!"

I could see the shock in her face, the anger rising. "Chris," she started screaming. "I..." she couldn't finish.

"You what?! Do you want me to kill you?!"

She started bowling. "Chris.. I love you!!"

"Wh-what..?"

"I love you, Chris, more than that stupid MaKayla girl—"

"MaKayla is not stupid!"

"She's stupid enough to leave you!"

I stared at her. I couldn't get any words out.

"Chris, don't judge me... Ever since you were with Alexis... I-I got jealous... And I thought you and I.. I thought... I actually thought that you would feel the same..." she wiped away several tears.

"Stephanie," I started. "I love you, too."

"Y-you do?!" she exclaimed as she started to hug me into a tackle.

"A-as a friend..!!!" I struggled to say.

"Oh..." she began to cry.

"Stephanie, I'm sorry, but... But I'm in love MaKayla."

"You fall in love too fast! I could've sworn you've fallen in love with almost every girl but me!"

I didn't blame her for thinking that. Honestly, I don't know much about MaKayla; I thought she was a dumb girl who was a little insane, and plus, I only wanted to use her for her body. But now I want to help her. She's not dumb. She's a little insane, but only because what the guys from Shadows did! I should've never joined, I don't care how much money I earn. The Shadows is horrible; I'm glad I'm a traitor to them.

I stood up. "Lets go," I quietly added.

"Chris... Is something wrong?" I could hear how concerned she was.

"I'm fine," I quietly added.

"Chris, it's alright if something is wrong... I'm your best friend, remember?" she quietly laughed as we walked out the door.

I grabbed her hand just to hold it. My face turned red and and tears were streaking down my face. Stephanie started to hug me tightly.

"Chris.."

"Alexis is dead because of me, an MaKayla won't last in the storm... It's over..!"

"Chris, listen to me," she sniffled. "She's not dead. MaKayla won't die. How many times have you thought she's died since you saved her? A lot, I'm guessing. But she's not dead! She's strong like you! And I bet she doesn't break down like this!!" her voice was cold, but I believed her.

"We're finding MaKayla," I said with confidence, dragging Stephanie out the door. Now it's time to find my love, and time to be strong.
