SEVEN Beth doesn't want to be content.

▬▬▬ ➳ ▬▬▬

It was hard trying not to speak to Mike. Beth wanted to slowly cut ties, so that if she ended up going to New York, it wouldn't hurt as much.

Yet, she couldn't stay away.

[I think I'm just trying to be happy]

[Why would you want that?]

They kept talking as always, several times a day, and she also couldn't bring herself to tell him about the transfer.

[what? to be happy?]

[yeah]

It was late, she should be sleeping. And probably so should he. They always did this, stayed up talking about stuff. Sometimes it was silly, sometimes it was serious, and most times it started as something silly and ended up being more profound than either of them was expecting it to be. That was what was so great about their conversations, they were unexpected.

[isn't that what everyone wants? what everyone looks for?]

[don't YOU want to be happy?]

[no, I definitely don't wanna be happy]

[o_O?]

[being happy implies this idea of a continuum]

[that for u to be happy, and lead a happy life, the happy moments should be greater than the sad moments, at least enough for the sad moments to be forgotten, to become unimportant]

[I guess what I'm trying to say is that a happy life is one which you wouldn't wanna change a thing.]

[and what's wrong with that?]

[that looks a whole lot like being content to me. people who say they want a happy life, actually want a content life.]

[I do not ever want to be content]

[but why]

[content people don't change the world]

Mike answered something but Beth had clicked on another notification that had popped up before his reply. It was an email notification. From HR.

It was titled "New York transfer request".

Sweat was dripping down his face while Mickey ran on the treadmill. His phone, laid in front of him over the panel, buzzed.

[hey]

He couldn't help but smiling. Picking up the phone, he ran, trying not to trip while texting. Not easy, but doable.

[u know what]

[I think you're right]

[about what?]

[about happiness and shit]
