Thor rushed over to Jane, who was kneeling down beside a body. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the body belonged to a young woman. She was slender, with willowy arms and legs that were covered by white material that reflected the Asgardian sunlight. Her hair was white as well, and was splayed all around her, obscuring her face. Jane’s hands were visibly shaking, she had her fingers pressed firmly against the inside of the woman’s wrist. Her eyes were frantic as she searched for that beat of life. Her face relaxed visibly when she felt a beat through the woman’s skin.

“She’s alive,” Jane whispered to Thor. She stood up and stepped aside as Thor approached the woman. He kneeled down beside her and place his hands on her sides, before flipping her over onto her back gently. Her silky hair slid down the contours of her face, revealing her features. There was no denying it—she was definitely beautiful, but not in the conventional way. Her cheekbones were too sharp and high in comparison to her lips, which were full and broad. She had a long, delicate nose that was slightly pointed, and from her closed eyes, Thor could see that they were large, rounded. One thing was for certain, she was definitely unconscious. He placed one hand under her neck, careful not to tangle his hands in the volume of locks and placed the other under her knees, lifting her up as Jane flitted by nervously at his side. He adjusted her body so that her weight was distributed across his forearms. Thor merely looked at Jane before they both headed back to the palace. Thor strode quickly, while Jane jogged at his side to catch up. The height difference certainly put a damper on things. As they neared the palace, Jane ran ahead, her dress billowing behind her, making her look like a levitating goddess. People that came her way, moved as she rushed towards the healer quarters. Thor wasn’t far behind with the woman in his arms. The servants and guards that lined the hallways looked at him curiously, moving out of his way as he quickened his pace. He barged into the room and placed the woman directly onto the table of the Soul Forge. Jane was already at the controls of the machine, having learnt some of its mechanism from Eir.

“Perhaps we should summon Eir,” Thor said, as he watched Jane move feverishly. Jane didn’t take her eyes of what she was doing. She moved her arms in haphazard motions, bringing up several quantum fields.

“It would be a good idea,” she said, “My knowledge is still fairly limited.”

Whatever Jane had done seemed to have worked, because the woman’s body was highlighted and the molecules transferred above her prone form. The sight was nothing they had ever seen before. Where normal physiology granted orange molecules and fairly normal representation of organs, the molecules here glowed bright white, with a strong energy swirling through her body—obscuring any view of organs. Oddly, the molecules also took form of wing like structures extending from her back to almost three times her size.

“You should definitely get Eir.” Jane whispered with wide eyes, “I may have broken the machine.”

Thor wordlessly left the room as Jane continued to stand in awe. She moved around the machine to get a closer look, examining the peculiar colour of the molecules and the strange energy that was flowing through her. It reminded her of the Aether—the energy levels were off the scale, and it seemed to be fused completely with her. The way it flowed through her body reminded her of the same feeling and she couldn’t help but shudder. She could sympathise with the woman, she truly could. There was no feeling to describe the Aether, and she was glad that others would not have to experience the same again. To add to the mystery, some of the molecules around the edge of the highlight were tinged orange, giving the impression of normal physiology. Jane reached out to touch the molecules, but hastily drew her hand away as the sound of approaching footsteps resonated through the room. She whipped around to see Thor stride into the room with Eir close behind. The woman brushed past Jane and went straight to the controls of the machine. She shot Jane a look that didn’t last long before she was absorbed in her activity. A moment later, Eir looked at Thor and Jane who were still watching her actions.

“There is nothing faulty with the Soul Forge. This is a true image of her physiology.” Eir said, her voice barely above a whisper, “I have never seen anything like this.”

“The energy within her is comparable to the Aether, if not stronger.” Jane spoke, “The readings are incredible.”

Eir nodded, “Indeed. It is a miracle that her physical body has been able to sustain such a large amount. You can see how it has affected her physiology. She is much stronger than the average being.”

“Is she going to be alright?” Thor asked.

“Her vitals are all in working order,” Eir said, “She seems to be concussed, and from what I can see, the energy inside her is replenishing as we speak.”

“Do we know what she is?” Thor asked.

Eir shook her head, “She is not of the nine realms. Whatever she is, it’s a completely new race to us.”

“A new race?” Thor echoed, “Impossible.”

Eir looked at Thor severely, “The Soul Forge does not lie.”

Jane gave Thor a worried look before casting her eyes once again on the woman lying within the Soul Forge. She hadn’t moved from her position, and it barely looked as if she was breathing. Jane had to admit, she was definitely intriguing. It was now a matter of waiting for her to wake up. She had many questions, everyone in the room was aware of this, but she wasn’t completely insensitive. She knew that when and if this woman woke up, she would be more confused and disoriented than anything. In fact, it was a mystery as to how she had wound up in Asgard at all. That, perhaps, was the biggest question of all.
