When raft is complete, he willingly boards,
her voice and her eyes somehow assure him,
rising hope is seen in strong rowing limbs
as he draws oars back and surges forwards.

Reaching Penelope, he stands up tall,
fastens blue eyes to grey as if anchored,
staring intently till reaching accord,
then clambers aboard as if lord, not thrall*.

Penelope cannot suppress her smile -
a man who compares with Odysseus?
She quickly quashes unmeet* reaction.

He may, in fact, prove entirely hostile,
utterly calculating and vicious,
she elects to scuttle her attraction.

*thrall = under the control of another person.
*unmeet = unfitting
