A/N:

So I changed the title of this. I just wasn't liking the old one anymore. I've also changed the beginning of the story. Hope you like it! Enjoy :)

Prologue

I swing my legs back and forth. My hair does the opposite movement. Kids run around me screaming and playing. Fifth graders double dutch on the basket ball/dodge ball court. Third graders play hop scotch on the sidewalk next to it. There's a mixture of both grades on the jungle Jim , running about playing tag, going down slides, swinging by me, and catching lizards or playing with Rollie pollie Ollie's and caterpillars. Here and there are a few second graders.

I leaned back and lifted my pale face to the warm sun. Today's a good day. I smiled to myself. I turned the big six today. Mommy said she has a surprise for me so she had me stay in after school daycare. I looked around and see that I'm the last first grader. I giggled as I swing higher.

Just as I was about to jump everyone was called to gather up and head inside. I swiftly jump off the swing and land with a soft thud in the warm sand. A third grader that was passing by gave me a weird look and ran inside with wide eyes. Momma says I'm pretty strong for my age. Kinda makes me feel like a super hero. I hummed and smiled as I walked to the double doors that led inside. Suddenly I had a strange feeling of being watched. I quickly glanced around but saw no one. Until I looked across the street and saw a man in all black staring at me. My smile dropped. His gaze had me locked in place. I don't like the feeling he was giving me. A smile slowly formed on his scarred face. That smile wasn't even close to being nice or sweet. The hairs on the back of my neck lifted as he licked his lips and stared at me hungrily. A huge truck zoomed by him. In a blink of an eye he was gone.

"Nova come on!" shouted one of the people who work here, Susan. I snapped out of my little trance and started walking.

I rubbed my arms to try and rid the creepy vibe that guy was shooting my way. As I walked in from the nice warm sun I was met by cold air. I quickly hugged myself to attempt to keep warm. But I know that it won't work. I walked over to the big tank of fish. I watched with great interest all the pretty fishes swim left and right. Some would come up to me but others would shy away. Some were small and some where big and round. Some were black and some were white and orange or just plain orange. I wonder what it's like to be a fish.

"Hey Nova come watch the movie,"said my best friend, Emily. She maybe a year older than me but we were inseparable. She blinked her big light brown eyes at me as she extended her hand out to me.

I walked over and clasped my hand around hers then we walked to the group of kids that were sitting in front of a big flat screen tv. The grown ups walked quietly around us as they passed us snacks and drinks. I looked behind me to see that they had some activities going on. On the left side of the room a couple of kids are playing board games. And on the right side a few kids are coloring. But most are over here watching the movie.

Turning back around I lose myself in the movie. My eyes the whole time stayed glued to the screen, never leaving it. Just as the movie ended I heard a jiggle of keys. My head whipped to the entrance of the cafeteria. I smiled and jumped up. Mommy is here! I ran over to my backpack and slipped it on. I gazed around to notice that I'm the only one left. I walked over to my mommy as she signed me out.

"Sorry I am so late Mrs. Duncan. I must of lost track of time ad there was a bit of traffic heading over here," my mom said to the woman sitting behind the desk.

"That's quite alright. It's understandable. All that matters is that you're here," she replied in her raspy voice as she gathered all the clipboards that were sprawled out over the desk.
