The plot of this is that the reader feels that Spike has feelings for Buffy and doesn't want to be a second choice.
"I-I think we should break up," you whisper, looking down at your feet.
"What? Surely you don't mean that love," you feel Spike's hand stroking your face.
"It's just, I can't do this," the tears start to roll. "I can't be your second choice, I can't watch you pine over.... Over her every time she walks into the room. I see the way your eyes light up every time you see her, and I know that doesn't happen when you look at me."
"Pet... That's not true," Spike goes to embrace you, but you pull back shaking.
"Don't touch me! Please...," You were sobbing now. It hurt you more than you could possibly have imagined, but you knew something had to be done.
"Now that I'm out the way you can finally go after her, like you've always wanted."
You start to move away, desperate to leave before it got any harder, when Spike grabs your wrist and pulls you to him. "Listen Y/N, in all my years of living, I have never met anyone as beautiful, smart or as talented as you. You bring out the light in me, and for that I'm grateful. I got this soul for you, you're the reason why I am the way I am today. Not Buffy, not anyone else but you."
He cups your face in his hands. "I have loved exactly one person in my whole lifetime, and that's you. I've seen your kindness and your strength, and the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're the one, Y/N."
Spike sighed heavily, sitting back. "If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what in bloody hell will."
The comment made you smile slightly, and you wipe the tears from your cheeks. "I'm sorry, it's just, you could do so much better than me."
Spike faked horror. "No I bloody well could not! Are you fecking kidding? I have all I need right here." He pulls you into a tight hug, and you stay wrapped in his arms.
