Nova

After putting Hallie to bed, I had spent a long time staring at my phone. Contemplating on if I should call him or not. The tv in the living room had become white noise as I sat curled up on the couch.

The front door creaks open and slowly shuts as Wes walks in the door. He takes off his jacket and hangs it on the coat hook before removing his shoes and turning around. He freezes when he sees me.

"Hey, I thought you were asleep" he says in a tired voice

"I was waiting for you" I respond in a whisper.

"You didn't need to do that babe" he says taking a seat next to me on the couch.

He leans in to kiss me and I pull away from him.

His eyebrows furrow as he sits back.

"Is everything ok?"

"No, everything is not ok Wes. We need to talk"

Wes lays his head back on the couch.

"Can it Wait Novs? I've had a really long day"

"No it can't wait" I snap

Wes senses the change in my tone and straightens his stance.

"Okay, What did you want to talk about?"

"What's today? Do you know?"

"It's a Saturday"

"Just a regular Saturday to you?"

Wes shrugs.

"What's this about Novs"

My anger increased. I can't believe he actually forgot.

"I can't believe you Wes!" I snap at him as I shoot off the couch.

"What the hell did I do?"

"What the hell did you do?" I mock

"You stood me up for our date tonight! Our anniversary dinner!"

Wes's eyes widen and his face pales.

"Shit" he mumbles, running his hand through his hair.

"Yeah shit" I say crossing my arms over my chest.

"I'm sorry babe, I completely spaced. Let me make it up to you"

"I just wanted one night where it was just to two of us. We made reservations and everything. You can't even give me that anymore Wes."

He stands up and rushes over to me and places his hands on my upper arms.

"Listen I'm sorry Nova, please let me take you out tomorrow to make it up to you" he pleads

"I don't want you to make it up to me. I just wanted you to show up for once"

His faces drops.

"I know, I got caught up at work and Josh went home early today. I'm sorry. I should've been there."

I pull myself away from his grasp.

"Yeah you should've."

"Novs-"

"I'm going to bed. I hope the couch is comfortable."

With that I turn and walk into our bedroom, locking the door behind me.

Six years we've been together and he just forgets about our anniversary. That sucks.

"Mommy?" Hallie asks in a tired voice as she rubs her eyes.
