"Natalie, get back here!" yelled my father, Charlie.
I ran as far as I could from him, knowing how drunk he was. He only got
like that when someone brought up the topic of my mother. When I was five
years old, about ten years from now, I came home from camp and heard
shouting. My brother and dad were arguing. I looked around the corner and
they saw me. My brother came to me and said he’d come back for me. He
never did.I could hear my father’s voice get louder as he came closer to the tree I
hid behind. That was when he screamed. I peeked around the tree and saw
my father getting stabbed by a man with an ax."No! Dad, no!" I screamed.
The man looked up and saw me, then started coming my way. I ran as fast as
my feet could carry me, then tripped over a log and hit my head on the
ground. After few minutes I awoke and saw the man standing above me. He
was raising the axe, about to hit me before I cried, "No, please don't!"Then I heard another man's voice say, "Who's making all that noise?" I saw
him appear and he came closer to me. "What are you doing out here?" I told
him what happened and he said, "Miss, no one was out here, only you."I was stunned, but he was right. The guy with the axe was nowhere to be
found. The man helped me up"Thanks for finding me,” I said.
"No, problem," he said.
He then took me to his grandmother’s house, where I started living with her.
Although things seemed to be normal after that, I would never forget that
day.
