Reprieve

I hear muffled sounds,

Happy ones,

Of delight and mischief.

And suddenly,

I have to be away.

I sit among the flowers.

They care not if I cry.

I only know lonely sounds,

The wind through the trees,

Crickets at night,

The silence of starlight skies

And the drip of water.

Yet, here I find solace.

In the company of wildflowers,

Indulging in my own heartbreak.

A reprieve from the lie,

"I am strong"

I have nothing to prove,

To the water, wind, flowers and stars.

They are the companions to many lonely hearts.

Here I can stay,

For a while anyway.

Before I put on the mask of a brave girl,

And go back into the happy world.
