"Ensign, the captain wants you on the bridge."

You looked up from your panel to see a young yeoman standing beside you.

"Now?" you asked.

"Yes, sir."

You sighed. "Alright. Yeoman, have O'Leary fill in for me here."

"Yes, sir."

You rose and headed for the lift. As you strode out onto the bridge, Kirk beckoned to you, and you joined him and Spock at the science station.

"Ensign, I need you to go with Mr. Spock on a landing party mission," he said. "We've been getting unusual energy fluctuations from this planet here–" he pointed at the screen, where a glimmering green sphere rotated slowly "-and Mr. Spock thinks the readings have something to do with unknown elements found in certain ores in the crust. Are you up to investigating?"

You blinked. "Are you sure a more experienced officer wouldn't be better, sir?"

"Mr. Spock requested you personally, ensign," the captain said, giving you a slight smile. "In my books, that's better that an officer who's been in Starfleet for several decades. Are you in or out?"

You ducked your head. "In, sir."

"Good. Go to the transporter room with Spock and wait for my order to beam down."

"Aye, sir."
