"No big shit, they just want to kill me."

Holy manure.

I only slightly choked on my spit.

“What –“ I echoed incredulously at Ace’s clipped declaration, leaning away and nearly slipping off the sofa. To control the situation, Ace easily muffled my response by pressing his lips against mine.

“Hey – “

He wove his fingers around my neck, “ – stop kissing – “

“ – me.” The pace of his kissing increased purposely.

I was not in the mood for smooching, not even a little. Mostly, I felt like socking Ace for being so casual about his possible demise. Molding into an unresponsive mass, a frown formed upon my face when he tried to move my mouth with his. Not going to happen, mister.

Seconds later, Ace took in my clear refusal not to engage in anything intimate. Sighing, like my behavior was abnormal, Ace rubbed at his stubble blotted chin. He then flicked his gaze to Bernie, “Leave."

Bernie’s nose scrunched, “Don’t tell me what to do, man. This is my territory.”

Leave,” Ace repeated, his tone lower. "Now."

Wilting under Ace's tone, Bernie groaned.

“Five minutes – then I’m returning because this is my habitat. I even pissed in here before, so it’s marked,” Bernie relented while shuffling towards the door and slipping away.

The moment that door fell shut, I went semi berserk and pounced against Ace. He released an echoing grunt as I pushed him into the cushions.

"Are you being legit here, Ace?" Placing a leg on both sides of Ace, I regarded all his bloody markings. I waited for him to offer an explanation for his statement prior but nothing vocal followed.

I felt overly flabbergasted.

Shoving him in frustration, I tapped his neck which didn’t harbor a splotch of blood, "Ace, speak."

I didn’t know how to handle the situation. Every aspect of Ace was beginning to fall into a category beyond my mental stability. I was certain it wasn’t an ordinary occurrence for your boyfriend to inform you that people wanted to end him.

"Yup, but it's not that big of deal," he finally deadpanned before taking my fingers and scrutinizing my nails. Curling my digits, I grasped what I could of his hands and pulled him closer.

...not big of a deal?

"It is a humongous shit," I rumbled but Ace seemed to have slipped on a blank face, "Why are you being so dead about it? Some person wants to exterminate you."

"Don’t stress, Flo, they can’t kill me,” Ace declared, dismissively, “They tried before and haven’t succeeded.”

Yet, Ace, yet.

Exhaling heavily, I roughly rubbed the region between my eyes, “What is the reason behind their homicidal plans?”

Pondering my question, Ace replied, "Jeremiah.”

“Your sperm donor?”

“Yeah, that one.” He grunted softly, “He tracts illegal dealers and ensures that their business ends. A few years ago, one of his assignments escaped."
