Unhealthy Romance

Part One

I looked out the school bus window with my hands rested neatly on my lap and allowed the hot sun to beam into my eyes through the glass window. The dead crops which passed my sight were the only thing which we were actually seeing for about two hours now, well since we left city. We were on our way back from the soccer competition which may I say we lost...well the guys did, us girls just jumped up and down cheering and stuffing pom-poms in people's faces.

Half of the guys where topless at the back screaming out some random song not actually bothered that they lost the championships, guess they know that they've always got next year, high school ain't ending any time soon sadly. Well, looks like they got a leaf from the girl's book.

Before you ask, yes there is enough room for the soccer team and the cheerleading team on one single yellow school bus. Mainly because the coach picked the four best cheerleaders to go so yeah. I was sitting on the right side of the bus alone not because I'm not friends with anyone but just because Cindy wanted to sit next to Clair and Mary wanted to sit next to her boyfriend, so yeah. But Cindy and Clair were sitting on the left side next to me...I just wasn't in the mood to get into they're convo.

I'm not the popular slutty girl, actually I'm just a normal fifteen year old girl...I just like to cheer. Let's just say I still have my enemies on the cheerleading squad, one who happens to be Mary and all because of Derry. I couldn't help but look behind my shoulder to the back of the bus on the left side to see him with his black hair, cut short after his hazel eyes, his pink lips slightly parted and his head against the window as Mary curled a strand of light brown hair around her finger whilst talking about the game.

Derry and I used to be best friends, we did practically everything together but he was also my first heartbreak. Two years ago Derry just disappeared, his parents wouldn't say a word to anyone and no one knew where the hell he was, then a year after he came back. But he wasn't the same...well not to me. He just came back like nothing happened, the school didn't stop him from just starting up again and no one found it weird, actually no one ever mentioned it again around him.

But that wasn't the worse. Derry had been my friend since we were five and when we started high school I started to fall for him, so the day before he left I was going to tell him. When he came back he was normal towards everyone, everyone except me. He wouldn't even look at me at first but then as time went on he would look at me but never once did he talk to me, it was like I was just some illness. He started dating Mary and she turned bitchy mode on me, she thought that I would start talking to him and spending all my time with him, she thought I would steal him from her but that was the last thing I wanted to do.

From the day he came back no one knows what happened but no one really cares anymore.

Yesterday he actually said hi to me! It was like he was forcing himself to talk to me, which just hurt more. Never the less...I still miss hanging out with him, even though his first word to me was hi after not talking to me for two years.

As I snapped back into realty his eyes turned from looking out the window to lock with mine. I felt my heart break just a little more and quickly looked away back out the window as a strand of dark blond hair fell into my green eyes. I tugged it back behind my ear and Daisy, the driver announced that we were pulling over encase any one needed to piss.

I pressed my lips hard together and tried pulling my mind from the pain exploding in my chest as the bus pulled over onto the side of the road. The doors opened and we all got out, I followed Cindy and Clair as we walked on the dead grass closer to the dead crops, the sun still had full power and only one tree stood just before the crops. It was withered with no leafs and the branches where freaky as hell and for some reason I felt like someone was watching us, someone who wasn't part of our group and something else told me it wasn't in the friendly way.

Cindy and Clair walked off as I stood still looking out trying to see if I could see past the crops, my eyes narrowed and my arms crossed over my chest. I could hear the sound of the guys joking around behind me but that didn't stop me from trying to see out. I felt like whoever that feeling was coming from was somewhere down there.

The sound of a stick creaking brought me out of my faze and my head snapped suddenly towards the tree which was a few feet away from me.

I looked closer to see where the source of the noise was and started taking small steps towards the tree. The closer I got the more I started to become aware of the black piece of cloth floating slightly out from behind the tree, it was more like the edge of a black cloak. I went closer and this time it was like I could see the shape of as arm forming. The feeling of being watching stopped and my heart started to beat a little faster as I opened my mouth ready to speak.

But just as quickly someone placed their hand on my shoulder causing me to let out a yelp and jump half way up in the air as I turned to see Mary standing there. I took deep breaths trying to calm my heart rate as I placed my left hand over my chest.

"Jesus Christ Mary! Don't sneak up on me like that!"

"Why the hell not? Anyway, what were you looking at?"

"There's someone behind the tree...it was like a cloak or somethi..." I cut off as I turned pointing to the tree only to see that whatever I was seeing was just...gone! "But there was something there!"

"Yeah sure whatever. Anyway I wanna talk to you about something." I turned to look at Mary ready to fight my corner so that she wouldn't think I was crazy, I swear something was there! I'm not making it up and I'm not going crazy! But she didn't give me a chance to say anything before she turned on her bitchy mode and started on the real reason why she was over here. "Look stay away from Derry!"

"What?"

"Stay. Away. From. My. Boyfriend! Do I need to spell it out for you?"

"I haven't even..."

"I saw you yesterday after the game."

"He came up to me and just said hi. I said it back and that's it." Mary placed on hand on her hip and the other out pointing at me.

"Look just stay away from him." Ok now I couldn't help but bring it up.

"Aren't you a little bit curious to why he left? Just like that and then came back after a year!?!" Mary pulled her finger back and straightened her pose.

"Let it go. I know you like him, more then you should so back off!" Before I could say anything else in order to defend myself Mary was walking back onto the bus leaving me just standing there. I took in a deep breath and when I looked back up from the ground Derry was just about to step into the bus but stopped turning to look back at me. I weakly smiled at him and he gave one back before going into the bus.

"Come on you pack of lazy ass teens! Time to get on the bus!" Daisy screamed retying her long grey hair into a ponytail. I walked back to the bus just as the last of the guys got on but just as I stepped up I couldn't help but look back at the tree only to feel that someone was watching me but now I was too far to see anything like I did before. "Come on Sky! I don't have all day!"

I took one last deep breath of air before walking back to the same leathered seat and sitting down resting my head on the window forgetting about my craziness and closing my eyes.
