You wore a smile on your face as you walked through the door of the OR room and into the scrub room. You and Dr. Stephen Strange had just pulled off an amazing surgery, saving a man everyone said had less than a ten percent chance of surviving.

You began scrubbing your hands and soon Stephen joined you, standing beside you. "Good job in there," you told him with a smile. "Thank you, you weren't so bad yourself," he replied. "Please, I practically stood there while you saved his life," you responded. "True, but I would still be lost without you," he responded in a joking manner that made you playfully role your eyes while smiling.

"You look absolutely beautiful today, by the way," he said, leaning closer to you. This had always been the way things were between the two of you. You constantly flirted with each other, making each other blush, but nothing ever really happened between the two of you.

Which was probably your fault, because you were convinced that Stephen was still in love with his former girlfriend, and surgeon, Christine. You loved the way things were between you and Stephen, and you thought about actually having a relationship with him, but then you would see him talking to her, and reality would start to sink in.

You had no idea if they were still a thing or not, and Stephen said there was nothing going on between the two of them, but just because there wasn't anything currently going on, it didn't mean there weren't still feelings involved. Not to mention the fact that all of your friends told you not to get involved with Stephen because he was only concerned about his own success and wealth, which made you wonder if that was the reason Christine broke up with Stephen.

Regardless, Stephen seemed so different around you, so you couldn't help but play along with the game. "You look pretty good yourself," you told him, leaning in closer as well. Stephen wore a smirk as he brought his face closer to yours.

Your lips were inches apart and you leaned in even closer, but before your lips could touch his, you turned your head and whispered in his ear, "You didn't really think that was going to work, did you?" You then pulled away with a smirk, turned the water you were using off and walked out of the room.

It only took a couple of moments for Stephen to follow you. "Come on Y/N, you know you want to kiss me," Stephen said, walking next to you. You let out a small chuckle and replied with a hint of sarcasm, "I really would kiss you, Stephen. But it seems to me like you already have a girlfriend."

Stephen let out a sigh that turned into a small groan as he dropped his head. He stepped in front of you, forcing you to look at him, as he responded, "I've already told you I have no feelings for Christine anymore. Besides, she isn't the one I want."

All you could do was look into Stephen's eyes, debating whether or not he was telling the truth. Before you could respond, you heard someone call, "Stephen!" You looked towards the source of the noise to find Christine smiling as she came down the hallway, her brown hair flowing perfectly and her green eyes sparkling.

You gave her a smile as Stephen let out a small disappointing sigh. "Hey, I need your help on a case," she told him, giving him a bright smile. Stephen just looked at you for a moment, trying to read your eyes for any sign of what you were thinking.

"That is if you and Y/N aren't doing anything," Christine stated, looking at you. You shook your head no and said, "I was just going home." "Perfect," she replied with a smile. "Y/N," Stephen started but you just told you, "Really it's fine, go do what you do best." He smiled and you returned it before going home.

When you got home you changed into some shorts and a T-shirt. You turned on your TV and began watching your favorite show on Netflix. It was pretty late at night when you decided to turn off your TV. You walked into your bedroom and walked into your bathroom. You brushed your teeth and then walked back into your room.

You sat on your bed and right as you were about to lay down, your phone started ringing. "Hello?" you asked. "Y/N, it's me, you need to come in, right now," you heard Christine's voice on the other end. "Wait, slow down. What's going on?" you asked, standing up and starting to slip on your shoes.

"It's Stephen. He got into a bad car accident. I don't know if he's going to make it. Please, you are the best surgeon we have besides him," she explained and you froze. You couldn't think, you couldn't speak, you couldn't move. You couldn't even breath.

"Y/N?" you heard her say, snapping you back into reality. "I'll be right there," you told her. You quickly went to the hospital, changing into your scrubs. You walked into the scrub room, scrubbing in before entering the OR. You were immediately gloved and you moved over to Stephen's body, trying to keep yourself together.

"Don't die," you whispered in his ear before beginning the surgery. A long while later, you had done everything you could. You saved his life, that was what mattered, but his hands were severely damaged.

You stayed outside his room, monitoring him to make sure he didn't die. But, you were pulled into another emergency surgery. When you had finished the surgery, you walked back to find Stephen awake. The biggest smile crossed your face, but it quickly disappeared when you saw Christine sitting next to him. She was stroking his face and running her fingers through his hair, trying to comfort him, and you felt your heart break.

A little while later, Christine left his room, and you entered. "Hey," you said softly, coming to stand next to him as he stared at his hands. "Why did this happen?" he asked you. You gave him sympathetic eyes as you placed your hand on his arm, careful not to hurt him.

"You're going to be okay," you told him. "No, I'm not! Y/N, look at me! Look at my hands!" he snapped back. "Stephen, you are so much more than your hands," you started to say, but his look stopped you. He was glaring at you. This was a side of him you had never seen.

"I am my hands. They are who I am. I can't believe you don't know that," he stated. "Of course I know how important your hands are. I'm a surgeon too! I'm saying there's more to life," you told him. "Like what? Settling down with you? That's not a life worth living," he snapped back. Hurt filled your eyes as you stared at him. His eyes softened slightly as you told him, "I'm going away for a while. I need a fresh start, and you need some time."

"Where are you going?" he asked, confused and scared of losing you. "I don't know. I'm just going," you replied, leaving him without words. You kissed his cheek softly and he couldn't help but melt into it. "Goodbye Stephen. I wish you the best of luck with everything," you stated before walking out of his room.
