Chapter Sixteen:

"Hunter, your friends at the door" my mum shouted from the door. I shoved the last pancake down my throat and ran grabbing my bag on the way

"Who?" I asked just as I saw Virgil at the door "I don't know who this is mum" I told her trying not to laugh. I made a face at Virgil who wore a smirk on his face

"What?" my mum asked confused "he seems to know an awful lot about you" she looked as though she didn't believe me but still had a trace of confusion in her face

"I honestly don't know who this is. He could be a stalker, can you tell him to leave" I told mum. I tried to keep my face as straight as possible. I was moments away from bursting out laughing.

"I know you know him Hunter, c'mon you're going to be late for school" my mum pushed me. I burst out laughing

"Okay see you mum" I laughed. I clutched my ribs as I felt sharp pain. I felt Virgil's hand on my shoulder.

"Are you okay?" he asked me in a hushed voice as we made our way to school

"Yeah. I'm fine" I smirked at him "So stalker, why did you come to my house and how do you know where I live?" I asked him with a raised eyebrow still having a playful tone in my voice

"Like you said. I'm a stalker" he grinned

"Whatever" I pushed him in the arm.

"I hate school" I said when we entered through the gate of the school.

"Doesn't everyone" Virgil smiled "I got away with it for a while though, until the Alpha found out I was skipping school. Being a nobody only works for so long before you are on somebody's radar"

I stopped at my locker "I guess I'll see you later" I told Virgil

"Yeah, I'll see you later" He smiled "Don't do anything stupid today" he said before walking off. I wonder what made him say that. I shrugged the comment off.

I opened my locker and put my bag into it. I didn't have to take out anything out of my bag because I didn't take anything home since I was last at school. I grabbed my books for first period and made my way to my chemistry class.

Lunchtime came rather quickly. I walked to my  locker throwing my books into my locker carelessly. "This yours?" Virgil had one of my textbooks in his hand

"Did you take it?" I asked him confused as to how he had got my book

"No stupid. While you were busy having a tantrum and throwing your books in your locker. I caught this one" He smirked then handed me the book. I snatched it back from him putting a sour look on my face.

"C'mon lets go" Virgil motioned for me to follow him. With a sigh I followed Virgil.

I sat down next to Virgil who had picked a spot on the school oval. I closed my eyes enjoying the sun on my skin. I would probably never take advantage of something as simple as feeling the suns warmth again, not after what happened to me only a couple of months ago.

"How's things with your dad?" Virgil asked, probably to start some kind of conversation not that he needed to. The silence that we sat in was comfortable.

"I haven't talked to him all that much since we last talked. I didn't really want to make him mad" I told him "It seems as though the littlest things set him off, it's not surprising. All of the stuff that he went through with being captured by the Black Dogs is probably unthinkable. I would hate to have to go through that"

"That doesn't give him the right to mistreat you Hunter, remember that it's not your fault no matter what happens. And I swear if you don't tell me when things get too bad" He threatened his voice becoming deep. I cut him off before he could say anything else
