Heroes - Tankman
Where is the hero today
who stood before the machines
of death and refused to yield.
That brave young man who stood tall
and called his countrymen to
not harm their own blood and soul.
I cried for you then tank man
and I cry for you today
burnt in the funeral pyre.
Did you know you would die as
you stood before the tanks and
dared them to drive over you.
Did you dream of living free
even as they tortured you
then bulldozed the evidence?
How many now know of you
and hold you in memory
after these twenty five years?
I hold your courage close in
my heart and give thanks for
the life I have and you don’t.
I hope I can face the tanks in
my life with as much courage
and example as you did!
