XXIV- Without them

Because of the consecutive soccer games, naging busy yung tatlo. Dahilan para mapag-isa ako ng ilang mga linggo.  Hindi muna ako sumasama kina Recca dahil nga alam kong mainit sila sa akin. Kaya most of the time, I stay alone. Sumusulpot sulpot si Kenneth at Kent, pero hindi na matagalan. Kasi hinihila nila ang isa't-isa pabalik ng field.

Parang nung isang araw. Tahimik akong nagbabasa sa tambayan ko, yung kung saan una kaming nagkita ni Kenneth. Nang biglang sumulpot si Kenneth sa likod ko.

"Sabi ko na namimiss mo ko e." He said out of the blue.

"Natutuwa nga ako dahil walang epal sa buhay ko eh. Sana forever na lang may games."

"Kunware ka pa. I know you long for my touch." I blushed with that he said. The nerve of this guy!

Pahampas na ako sa kanya ng hawak kong libro nang bigla siyang hilahin ni Kent palayo. 

"Sabi ko na nga ba umiiskor ka nanaman e! Madaya yan dude! Foul!" Hindi man lang niya ako pinansin at patuloy nahinila si Kenneth palayo. Narinig ko pa silang magtalo habang naghihilaan sila.

Tapos nung Wednesday pala, kumakain ako ng ice cream sa cafeteria tapos may sumigaw sa isang banda. Napatingin ako. Nagulat na lang ako nang may humawak sa kamay ko tapos may malamig na unti-unting tumutulo, pero mas nanaig yung mainit na bagay na nagpawala ng lamig na yun.

"Hmm. So you like strawberry." It was Kent. He licked the ice cream that was melting on my hand.

"Ano ba Kent, kadiri ka!" I said when I pulled my hand away from him.

"That's hot, not kadiri." He said.

"Bago pa man ako makapagsalita ulit, hinigit na siya ni Kenneth-- na hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling-- palabas ng cafeteria. Nakita ko si Janus na nakabuntot sa kanila at nagsabi ng "Laters, Cars!" sa akin.

There was one time naman na nag-CR ako. Wala masyadong tao noon sa CR. Pagkatapos ko maghilamos, nagulat ako nang makita ko reflection ni Kenneth sa salamin.

"Ay palaka! Kenneth!" I was starled. I turned to him and sisigawan ko na sana siya nang bigla siyang lumapit sa akin.

He looks so tired. His eyes, those cold eyes, are now empty. It's like longing for something. He looks like he hasn't gotten enough sleep for weeks. Masyado naman ata siyang napapagod sa soccer.

"B-bakit?" I asked and tried to stop him by crossing both my arms on my chest. 

He just stared at me at lumapit. Kinuha ang magkabila kong kamay at tinanggal sa pagkakatakip ko sa dibdib ko.

He hugged me.

Hindi ako nakagalaw. Bukod sa nagulat ako sa ginawa niya, wala akong mauurungan sa likod ko dahil lababo na yun. At konting push pa ni  Kenneth sa akin, baka mapahiga ako-- which will turn us in an awkward position.

"K-" Before I could even say his name, he interrupted. 

"Let's just please stay like this for a while." His voice was tired and kind of sleepy. It was husky and I must admit it was hot.

So for a couple of minutes, I stood there not doing anything but let him hug me like that. I counted from one to thirty, still, he isn't letting go. Inaantay ko rin na sumulpot si Kent or Janus out of nowhere, pero wala sila. Matagal tagal rin kaming nasa ganoong posisyon and I must say that I felt safe in his arms.

During that long silence, I could feel and hear his heart beating. I have always wondered what it would feel like to be hugged my the one you love and hearing his heart beat for you while doing so. Ganito kaya yung pakiramdam nun? Safe?

A few moments more and he finally let go. Mukha pa rin siyang pagod. Pero kahit na mukha siyang pagod, ang gwapo pa rin niya.

"Are you--" Again, he cut me off. This time, I felt my heart beat thrice as fast as my normal heart rate.

He planted a kiss on my forehead.

Even if it just lasted for seconds, it felt like it lasted for a year. A lifetime.

He didn't say another word and then left. 

I was left dumbfounded in the girl's CR for an hour. Natapos na nga yung klase ko nung nakalabas ako ng CR. Hindi ko alam kung anong nangyare.

Now every time I remember that, I stare at nothing for a few moments before I get back to reality. It's like I get teleported to an alternate universe. That kiss sent me to an alternate universe.

After that incident though, when I left the CR, there was this huge teddy bear in front of the CR. I was curious so I checked it out. And to my surprise, my name is written on a pendant that the teddy bear wore. I searched for a letter or card telling who it was from and I saw one. Before I even read Jasper's name on it, I knew it was him already.

From Stalker:

It's so nice to see you smile. It takes all the stress in me away.

To other people, this might sound scary. Especially if his text messages always gets to me as if on cue. As if he's just somewhere watching me. Yes, it is scary. But at the same time, it makes me smile. As if I'm something that he looks after, even from a far. He's like an angel or a fairy. Pops out of nowhere to give me a gift or just to make me smile. And I appreciate it all.

Now, I'm with Janus. He asked me to stay with him since he asked for a day off at practice.

"Bakit hindi mo kasama yung dalawa?" I asked.

"Hindi naman sila ang anak ng may-ari ng school. Hindi ko sila pwede isama." He winked at me.

"Is it okay to.. you know, hang out with me? Hindi ba sila magagalit or something?" 

"Why are you so worried?"

"Ah eh.."

"Afraid that I might turn out to be just swiping you away from them?" He smirked.

I didn't reply.

"Natatakot ka ba na baka pareho lang din ako ng iniisip gaya ng sa kanila? Na kaya ako nakipagkaibigan sa'yo dahil gusto rin kita?"

Wait. What is this.

"Yun ang iniisip mo diba?" He leaned toward me.

"Hindi ah."

"Good! Kasi hindi naman talaga." May split personality rin pala tong taong to eh. Kanina lang he was weird. Ngayon, he's playfully cheerful again.

I don't get these demi gods and their personalities.

A/N: Our hearthrobs are busy! How will they make up to Cara? And I'm quite worried about Kenneth... he seems rather... tired. Anyway, 30 votes for the next chapter. Right? Right!
