Chapter 23 - Why Are We Friends?

DRACOS POV

At first I was stunned. How could she be gone? Where did she go? Ginny kept talking to me, but I couldn’t understand her, her voice was muffled. She looked so worried. Without a word I ran to my common room. I had to figure this whole thing out. I went into Hermiones’ room, and began searching through her stuff. Looking for a clue. I pulled all of her clothing out of her wardrobe, looked through her books and papers on her desk. Nothing. I felt a lump forming in my throat. I had never felt so helpless in my entire life. I sat down on Hermiones bed. What could have scared her so much, she had to leave? I looked hopelessly around the room, and in between all the mess, something caught my attention. A small piece of paper lay underneath a lit candle. I stood up and took the paper. The edges were burned. A single sentence was written on it.

Remember what I said.

It was written in a neat, cursive handwriting. This was a note to follow up on the first note, the one she had thrown into the fire. I couldn’t help but feel like she had meant for me to find it. She wanted me to find her and help her. She just couldn’t tell me. Something struck me. I ran out of her room and to the fireplace. Now with no flames I could look around in the ashes, and like my suspicions told me, there was the note. I thanked God Hermione was so good at spells; she had put a protective spell on the note. I was now sure she wanted my help. I straightened out the paper and began reading.

I stared at the note in horror; this was my fathers’ doing! But how? How could he be doing this? Without another thought on this subject, I left the common room. I had to go to the ministry. I had to see if my father was there. I had to make sure. I hurried out of the castle, and began making my way down to Hogsmeade, and out of Hogwarts grounds.

“Draco!” I kept walking; nothing was going to interrupt me. “Draco, stop!” I ignored her. She was not important. The only important thing to me right now was Hermione. I had to make sure she was okay; I had to find her! I came to the gates and pulled out my wand to unlock them. In a few seconds I’d be free to apparate. I stepped out.

“Draco Lucius Malfoy! Get your arse back in here!” I turned around to see Ginnys’ flaming hair and regretted it immediately. She was pissed.

“No. I’m sorry Ginny. I have to find her.” I hissed.

“So do I! But I’m not running off on an impossible mission to find her. Stay here, and we’ll get help from McGonagall!” she begged.

“This can’t wait. She can’t wait!” I handed her the note, she read it through and looked up at me with big eyes. “I have to go, Gin. Goodbye!” I muttered before apparating.

I made it to an empty alley in London.

         “Wow. I haven’t done side-along apparition before.”
