Once we'd sat down at the table, Trixie started to gush about her new man. There came a slightly frustrated groan from all of us nurses and some raised eyebrows from the Sisters. We'd heard this so many times. It's Stan this and Stan that nowadays. One can hardly get a word in edgeways!
"He wants to take me dancing tonight," she says, "and I'm not on duty all morning tomorrow. Do you think I should go Sister?"
Sister Julienne nods slowly and deliberately. "It is your life. Make of it what you will."

"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned." (Song of Solomon 8:6-7) murmurs Sister Monica Joan.
