Here Then Gone

The first breeze of summer
saunters through my open window,
carrying the sweet scents of
nature's breath in tow.
Her whispered words of wisdom
washed in warm wind;
An eternity in an instant
like a glimpse of the end.

Here then gone so quickly
a sad truth of our reality
Things must change, none can remain.
Each breath, a step towards tragedy.
I hear these words cried by rain
in shrieks while they descend
"The end is imminent and coming
You're here one day and then--"
Drip.

Here then gone forever
Raindrops, You, and I.
We'll all be puddled up in pity
once our time draws nigh.
Remembering the summer's breeze,
and plummets from the sky,
"Here then gone forev--"
with a whisper, as we die.

(And the wind will carry messages
to some new soul in July
through the rustle of the leaves.)
