Chapter 10: The Admission in the Aftermath

*Kat*

“Anne has sent assassins to Narsda to kill you…”

That was all I heard before I spaced out. Before I knew it I was running. I didn’t stop until I hit the palace wall beyond the forest. I grabbed my sword and practiced my moves against a tree.

“The Princess is missing. She ran after we told her. She could be in trouble.”

“I’m just here…I have been, well, practicing.”

Conrad stormed over, a deadly look in his eyes.

“Conrad I-I…” Tears threatened to stream down my face.

“Just shut up, I was so worried about you. Do you know that?” He stared at me for a couple of seconds.

He wrapped his arm around my waist and the other at the base of my neck. I blushed knowing what he was going to do next. He pushed me closer to him, with the hand around my waist, so there was no space between us. Again I blushed deeper as he tilted my head back to look at him. My blush got deeper and deeper until our lips touched.

The kiss seemed different this time. It seemed more urgent, like he wasn’t going to get another.

“I’m sorry Conrad.” I said when we had pulled away. “I needed to get away and I hit the wall so I pretended a tree was Anne.”

He smirked and pulled me into a hug, putting his chin on my head and said. “Only you would take the news that assassins are after you as anger and release it on a tree.” We both laughed as we looked at the nearly fallen over tree that served as my dummy for the day.

“After that he kept close watch over me. Everywhere I went there were guards. He even moved me into his room! Separate beds of course though. I have to admit, it’s cute watching him worry.

God. Did I just say cute? I shouldn’t be in…lov…falling, I’m not at that other stage yet, for him.

*Conrad*

I walked into the training room and found Kat pacing and muttering to herself. I only caught snippets here and there but I got the basic idea.

“Cute?…shouldn’t…lov…falling…yet.”

So she’s falling for me huh? I sneaked up behind her, grabbed her, and cradled her in my arms. After her screams subsided, she has some major lungs by the way, and she saw it was me, she glared. Again her signature ‘six-feet-under’ glare.

“How much did I say?” she asked anger swelling in her voice.

So she didn’t know she was saying it.

“Hear what? That you are in love with me?” Before she could do more than blush I kissed her. She gasped, my desired reaction, and I slipped my tongue into her mouth once more. Soon she stopped fighting it and gave in.

We were both breathless when we parted and I set her back on the ground. She still wore a slight blush as she moved to the doorway and stared at me.

“Yes.” She whispered just barely audible to me. That was all I got before she ran down the hall. She had finally admitted she loved me, and I was over all three Shif moons.
