Background: K'li is the last surviving Tamaranean of her universe after the rest of the population was decimated by Parademons from Apokolips. The attack came when she was a young child and her survival in the face of the fiercest force in her universe comes from her natural martial abilities - she was found in the middle of a group of slaughtered Parademons by Barda. The woman picked up on her natural abilities and took her to Apokolips to be trained as a Fury to further hone those abilities. She grew up idolizing Darkseid, making it her mission to impress him, and to do so she killed the only person she cared for in front of him (her classmate turned sister, Eila). Her reasoning for this decision was that she cared too much for her sister, when as a Fury, she should only care for her master, Darkseid.
This led to her to become the Fury of War.
