" Come here you stupid child! " shouted Mama as I tried to sneak into my room. I hang my head low with shame as I walked towards her in the kitchen.

"Where are you coming from?  Sneaking around like a cat that just stole meat from the pot. Start speaking before I beat the details out of you right now. "

"Mama I... "

"Keep quiet! Are you talking while I'm still talking? "
But I thought she just asked me to start explaining myself. This woman though.

"Are those vegetables going to prepare themselves? Get busy. Do you want my husband to die of hunger? "

"He is your husband, Mama. Your husband. " I muttered under my breath.

"Ehee!  What did you just say? "

"Nothing Mama. Nothing. "

"I thought so too. Hurry up before I slap that sparkle off your eyes.  Why are the even sparkling? Have you been stealing your father's wine? Eee, Dembe, have you? "

"No, Mama " What was even wrong with her? She can be so melodramatic. I wonder how Papa manages that.

I prepared the vegetables but my mind was elsewhere wandering off. The events at the stream still lingered in my mind. Was Kojo there the whole time? Did he See Me undress? That stupid boy. And what did he really want from me? What about those sparkles Mama was talking about. That was not so much of a big deal, I had pretty eyes, that was just it.

"You better not burn that food. Wait till you get to your husband's house then you can serve him burnt food if you wish, but for now, pay attention. "
Mama was at it again.

I only needed that to get off my thoughts. Just as I was finished laying out food for my father in the main house, my brother walked into the kitchen.

"Heey!  What is going on between you and Ko... "
I shushed him before he could finish.

"Do you want me dead? Nosy boy! "

"Well, I saw him walk you home and he looked pretty satisfied with himself so... "
"Can you just keep quiet for a while, Amare? I will tell you what really happened later, unless you want the gates of hell to open and let down your mother's fury. "
He shrugged and then sat down waiting for me to dish out his food. Mama and Papa ate in the main house while we ate in the kitchen.

Amare is my elder brother. He is older by two years, but sometimes I really doubt this. He can be so dumb. Despite this, he is one of the best hunters in the village and this has got many girls swooning over him, much to his delight. Kia, my best friend is head over heels for him but he does not even know. Poor girl, but I still love her.

"So, what were you doing with Kojo? "
Could he not swallow his food before talking?

"He just walked me home. And do not ask me why because there are no reasons. "

" Of course there are reasons. Is something going on between the two of you? "

Death stare again.

"Of course, yes, something is going on between the two of us. It is called hatred, dear brother, hatred. "

"I would not say that if I were you. Your eyes are giving you away. "

What was wrong with everyone? Could they not not just accept the fact that I had really beautiful eyes?

Kojo's pov

As I walked back home, I could not help but smile as I recalled all the events that took place at the stream. She was indeed a true beauty. Always has been. Her eyes are bewitching, her skin flawless. Kings would definitely fight over her. And that backside, my God, this girl would be my undoing.

I have always been attracted to Dembe but she has never noticed. Or maybe she just does not want to. Her aggressive nature gives me the feels, if only she knew. I knew she would be at the stream at that time of the day and taking her clothes Was The first thing that popped up in my head. Silly, but it kind of worked. She looked like a real goddess and if she were to rule over me for eternity, I would not mind. I was knocked out of my trance when I heard someone call out my name. Mulutu. Just the person I needed to talk to.

"And then I walked her home and asked her to meet me tomorrow. "  I explained to a wide-eyed Mulutu.

" You did what? You are crazy Kojo. Very crazy. "
Well, I could not deny that. I knew I was crazy. Dembe was driving me insane.

"That girl will bite your ear off before she gives you a chance. "

"She better bite off both of them, because she is going to be mine. "  I said resolutely.
The only thing I had to deal with was my reputation. That cursed reputation.

Mulutu came and put the back of his hand on my forehead and said in a rather amusing tone,
"Are you sure you are fine?  Some herbs would do, you know. "
I pushed him away laughing. So much for a best friend's support.

I could not sleep that night. Her face kept appearing in all my dreams. That angelic face. She was not a goddess just yet and she was already ruling over me. I turned so much, I thought my bed would break.

She would be mine. Just mine and mine alone. I knew she would show up at our spot. Our spot. What was I even thinking when I said that?
Cocky.
