My Mad Fat Diary is a BAFTA-nominated British comedy-drama television series that debuted on E4on 14 January 2013. It is based on My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary written by Rae Earl. The second series started on 17 February 2014 and ended on 31 March 2014, with each episode posted on 4oD a week prior to the television release. In November 2014, it was announced that a final three-episode third series would be made, set in 1998. After three series and sixteen episodes, My Mad Fat Diary broadcast its final episode on 6 July 2015.
Set in the mid-90s at the height of cool Britannia, My Mad Fat Diary takes a hilarious and honest look at teenage life from the perspective of Rae- a funny, music-mad 16-year-old who, despite an eccentric mother and her own body image and mental health issues, has a huge lust for life, love, and trying to get laid. Rae's friendship group includes best friend and popular girl Chloe, jack-the-lad and joker Chop, the sweet and innocent Izzy, major lust interest Archie, and fit-but-knows-it Finn.
