Chapter Twelve

THALIA'S POV

Why? Why is Kelp Head running away?

I mean, we need to kill him, but I won't let the Hunters.

Not that they would listen to me over my father...

When we found Percy after the freezing temperatures had died down, he tried to run away but ended up stumbling, and it looked like he was hurt.

We couldn't tell if it was an act or not.

I stop the Hunters.

"Wait."

"Wait? He's right there! Easy to kill him!" Phoebe, my second, exclaims.

"It doesn't look like he's faking it," I say as I watch him stand up slowly.

He turns to us, and I stare at him.

He draws his sword. Riptide.

Everybody thought that he is about to attack, so we all tense up.

He holds the sword to his head and whispers something too soft to hear before he disappears in a whirlwind of cold air.

PERCY'S POV

I let the winds carry me away to Boreas's ice castle.

I land gently in front of the palace.

It is beautiful.

And it's made of ice. My element.

I enter the palace and find my way to the throne room.

Boreas is standing, waiting for me.

Of course he is. He answered my prayer. I smile up at him to show him I'm thankful.

He smiles at me.

"Glaciem."

I bow.

"Lord Boreas."

"What did I say about the 'Lord' business?"

I can't not laugh.

"I have wanted for you to know that I have been thinking about having you as my heir."

I freeze.

"Your...heir?"

"Yes. Khione is still earning her punishment in...never mind! Will you, Perseus?"

I think about it, ignoring my name.

"I, Perseus Jackson or Glaciem, accept Lord Boreas' offer of become his heir and successor."

Boreas smiles, and I feel myself levitate into the air.

A giant wave of freezing cold energy floods my body, and I resist the pain that is on the brink of exploding.

It stops, and I remain in the air and catch my breath.

Then another wave comes, but this time, it's burning cold.

I can't handle it, and I scream out in pain.

Seconds later, I feel myself drop onto the floor, and I pass out.
