He loves her.

He matured and realized as he watched her from afar that he was stupid, so stupid and young, and he took her love for granted. Instead of wanting her, an independent and intelligent girl who helped comfort him at 3 in the morning when his parents were fighting and smashing beer bottles against the once joy-filled, now desolate house, he wanted something else. Lust.

He never realized the greatest joy in his life was her.

He broke her heart by saying three words she thought she'd never hear from the boy who said 'I love you' first.

'I'm over you.' He grabbed his jacket and left, taking her shattered heart with him. He wrecked his life by pulling the band-aid that kept everything together off.

It doesn't hurt if you pull it off fast.
