I never thought this day would come

I never thought this day would come

it still feels like a dream

but thankfully, for once

things are exactly as they seem

As I walked into the room

his face lit up because he knew

that he was giving me all I could ask of him

something that was too long overdue

and everyone else in the space rejoiced

for they too were just as pleased

with the words that fluttered out of his mouth

like a delightful summer breeze

and it was even greater than I'd expected

having what I'd been promised confirmed for real

I could only grin when thinking of the future

because of the happiness it made me feel

I look upon that day now

with fondness - with smiles and laughs

the day my teacher said that I'd finished my exams

and no longer had to do maths.
