Mel was surprised at her resourcefulness. She was a girl scout, but they weren't exactly trained on 'what to do when a creep kidnaps you ties you up, and puts food on your lap' or anything. She hadn't once thought about how much her face hurt, or how many teeth she lost (three). Of course, now she was thinking about it, and her face hurt. A lot. At least she wasn't hungry anymore.

Boredom set in. Mel needed something, anything, to think about. Her kidnapper had known her. She recognized his voice. But who was he?

Suffer like I suffered.”

Mel was never the kind of person to put others down. It just wasn't in her nature to be mean. So who had she caused to suffer?

Mellie . . .”

Who called her 'Mellie'?

She knew.
