As the nervous first years filed in anxiety written all over their faces even though the Hufflepuffs tried to ease their nervous minds with reassuring smiles. They all gathered at the front of the hall to be sorted after the sorting hat sang its song McGonagall stepped up to read off the names - at this time the names are read in the order of first name then last name this will be the last year of that and soon you will see why-as she started there was a look of unease and disappointment on her young face the hall became deadly silent as the students waited for her to begin calling the names of the frightened first years:
Buster Cherry- Ravenclaw
Brock Lee- Gryffindor
Iona Ford- Gryffindor
Kay Bull- Gryffindor
Joy Kil- Ravenclaw
Hugh Jass- Slytherin
Harden Thicke- Ravenclaw
Brandy D. Canter- Hufflepuff
Dick Bush- Slytherin
Holly Jolly- Hufflepuff
Dick Hunter- Gryffindor
Heidi Clare- Ravenclaw
Hellen Wiells- Hufflepuff
Chip Munk- Hufflepuff
Don Key- Slytherin
Doug Graves- Hufflepuff
Gene Pool- Gryffindor
Anita Job- Ravenclaw
Poor McGonagall had to take pauses in between many of the names to quiet the laughter. Some of the kids took it very well but many of them seemed very embarrassed so when they were sorted the prefects in their houses made it a point to talk to them and reassure them that they were not being made fun of and that this would all blow over soon. When dinner and dessert were over Lily followed very closely by James found their head dormitories. James was starting to snicker and Lily whipped around at him "are you laughing at those kids names?" "Oh come on lils Buster Cherry" he exclaimed " BUST-HER-CHERRY come on you've gotta be inhuman or something to not laugh at that" "I am 100 % human I'm just not 10" she attested.
Once inside their communal living space James tried telling her all of these bad jokes just to lighten the mood but anyone observing the two at this point in time could tell that it wasn't having the desired effect. They each retired to their separate rooms James kicking himself for making such an ass of himself and Lily was left to wonder just how she was going to make it through this year.
