Chapter 15

           

     Raven was slow to wake up and when she did she found herself in a darkened room.  She took her time sitting up and then blinked her eyes as she worked to focus her eyes.  It took a minute, but as everything became clear, her surroundings became more familiar. 

     She was in Will’s room, that much she had been able to discern.  But what was she doing in Will's room?  How did she get here?  Just as fast as the questions came, the memories started to follow. 

     Getting off the plane, the strange encounter with that girl, the lake, dinner, the poison in the food...."Oh God," she murmured to herself, covering her mouth as it all came back and then Will- Will did something, no he turned into something.  He turned into a wolf right there in front of her eyes. 

     She felt her blood go cold as she tried to cope with it all.  A wolf, he turned into a wolf.  What type of person turns into a wolf?

      "Raven, sweetie, are you okay?"  She snapped her head around at the sound of Layla's voice.  So many thoughts were running wild in her head, so many that she couldn't think of which one to voice first.  "You're not looking so well," Layla pointed out, taking in her pale face.  "Here," she said getting up and picking up a glass that was on a table by the bed, "Sip a little of this water.”

     She glanced at the glass of water that her friend held out to her and then stared up at her face.  Then, the image of Will as a wolf came to life in her head and she just flat out  panicked.

     Jumping out of the bed, she grabbed a hold of Layla’s hand and started dragging her towards the the door.   Not bothering to look back at her friend she started babbling as she thought about the best way to get them out of here.  "We have to leave, Layla.  There are strange things here, bad things.  We don't have time to pack, we need to grab Christopher and go." She stopped long enough to bend down and slip her shoes on.  "Monsters, that’s what they are.  There all God damn monsters and there going to kill us, eat us........"  She stopped for a moment as that thought registered in her mind and then shook her head.  "We have to get out of here now!”

      If it had been anyone else, Layla would have died laughing.  The idea of Christopher and WIll as man eating monsters was proposterous.  They were more like over-grown fur balls in need of all kinds of attention.  But this was Raven, her friend and she would not laugh at her.  Instead, she abruptly pulled her to a stop. 

     “Raven," she demanded.  "Stop it! Look at me," she commanded with her iron strength gaze, "Now breathe." 

     Shocked by Layla's reaction, she stopped and stared up at her friend.

     Seeing that she now had her attention, Layla laid a hand on her shoulder.  "First off," she told her, "Calm down."  Taking her by the elbow, she led her over to the bed, and gestured for to sit on the bed.  "We need to have a talk."
