I've always had nightmares about sea monsters- our worst enemies. Stories have been told about how they can slaughter thousands of our race at once. Although, many think that they don't even exist anymore, that they were defeated long ago. Apparently, that included the majority of the merpeople at the meeting.

"That is ridiculous!"

"Sea monsters might've fought our ancestors, but they were eventually defeated! This is common knowledge!"

"Preposterous!"

The outbursts continued once again until-

"SILENCE!" the leader yelled. "We shall consider all possibilities before we exclude them. Mrs. Redfin, do you believe what you saw was indeed, a sea monster?"

"Yes, I am sure." she answered. Whispers arose.

"Then we shall send some of our mermen to investigate the area. If they do not return, then we shall have another meeting to consider the next action. If they do, then case closed. It was merely a rumor spread." The leader said once again.

Most merpeople murmured in agreement, but some looked about ready to explode.

"I can't believe you're buying this!" someone yelled. "This is all a joke!"

The leader thought for a second, and then said, "We shall have a vote."

"Raise your hand if you agree with the sir over here." he said calmly.

I couldn't see how many hands were up.

"Now raise your hand if you agree with my plan." he said.

The majority of merpeople there must have agreed with the leader, because he said, "Very well. Now we must discuss who to send on the mission."

He read a lot of names off of a list that I didn't recognize.

"You shall leave at once." he said, and I heard a rush of fins exit the palace.

I swam over to the corner of the building to watch them go.

Just then, I saw a blur of sandy blonde hair go by... the soldier from yesterday!
