"Hey, you've got Luke! I'm probably practicing, or with my beautiful girlfriend, Katie. I'll call you back as soon as possible, okay? Leave a message after the beep!"
Beep.
"Hey, Luke. It's me again. I figured you were probably busy or something, so I didn't want to call again too soon..."
There was an awkward, insecure pause.
"I know you're out there having the time of your life. I thought maybe I could text you, but you know how I feel about texting. Tsk, so impersonal..."
There was an uneasy laugh over the line.
"I really do miss you. This tour feels like it's taking forever, and it's only been a few weeks..."
Again, there was a pause. It wasn't awkward or insecure or unsure, no. It was empty.
"I'll talk to you later. I love you."
Beep.
