A MOST UNUSUAL MORNING

When Isobel woke up,

She felt in her bones that something was different.

She jumped out of bed and ran to the window.

Outside everything had changed.

The ground was covered with a thick blanket of snow, which hid the path,

The flower-beds and the grass.

There was no wind to blow the snow off the trees.

'Where are the birds?' She wondered.

'They're usually flying about and chirping by the time I wake up.'

Isobel watched the fiery red sun as it rose above the horizon.

She wondered whether it was red with anger, because it had not been able to wake the world.

A bright red bird flew on to a branch of a tree, making a shower of snow fall.

It chirped, and Isobel laughed.

She ran to tell her mother about this unusual morning.
