Chapter 4: Library Adventure

Cinder and I were outside in front of a small restaurant. After we were basically kicked out of the castle for the day, we decided to decide on a long-term plan. "After we hit this place and then this place, we could rent a boat here and travel across the ocean to reach here. Then we can travel to here and here and then stop here. Finally, we can reach your home by boat and horse again. Sound good?" I explained as I pointed to different locations on the map.

Cinder nodded and was about to say something until an old man came up to us. "Would either of you care to here about my idea for new means of agriculture and-"

"No!" we both said at the same time. It's been like this all day. People would come up to present their newest idea or invention in hopes to gain some followers. Everyone thought they came up with a revolutionary discovery when the truth is, they haven't. I was getting tired of hearing all of this crap. When was dinner?

As soon as the man walked away, Cinder sighed. "I wish we could leave this town right now. I feel like I can't breathe around all this scientific madness. Can't they all just relax?"

I took a sip of my water. "I hear what you mean, but we can't leave without Prince Blaise. The more princes, the better chance I have to not getting my head cut off."

"What do you mean?"

"The queen isn't a fan of me. I have a pretty good idea why, but she doesn't have a good enough reason to kill me off yet. Her only option is to have me fail at one of my quests but that's never happened. If Princess Ava is dissatisfied with her choice, there is no doubt in my mind she'll tell her mom to get rid of me. They are people with high standards."

"Oh." he simply responded. Cinder had a look of concern and worry on his face. Even though it's only been a day, I could see some stubble appear on his face. I liked his clean style, but him having that stubble made him look manly. Or at least more rugged looking. 

I blushed at my own thought. Cinder quirked an eyebrow. "What? What are you staring at me for?"

I took another drink and shrugged. "Nothing. It's just that I think you look good with a bit of stubble. Let's go hang out at the castle. I'm done with these streets."

"Yeah, sure." he got up with me and we headed back to the castle. We should probably start getting ready for dinner anyways. I planned on wearing my uniform and I was sure Cinder was going to dress in a similar fashion.

We reached the castle and the guards guided us to our living quarters for the night. We already made sure to go back to the hotel to pack out things, so everything was with us. I stripped myself of my casual wear and dressed in my formal uniform. It displayed all of medals and kingdom colors. It's what I would've worn the ball if I wasn't pressured to wear a dress.

I looked in the mirror and figured that my hair was okay. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad either. I checked the time to see it was almost dinner time. I walked out and saw that a guard was waiting for me. He guided me to the dining hall.

The dining hall was magnificent. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, candles were lit, the table was set to perfection, and servers were awaiting our arrival. I was sat down next to the head chair. Cinder came in a few minutes later and sat across from me. I assumed the head chair was where Prince Blaise would sit.

We waited for at least 15 minutes until the prince arrived wearing his own suit. As soon as he was sat down, the food was brought to us. "Well, isn't everyone looking nice this evening. I apologize for being late, I got lost in my studies. Anyways, what are you here for?" the prince questioned us as he examined his meal.

"Princess Ava is looking for a husband. That husband will also be the new king for the kingdom. I'm here to take you to there as a potential king and husband. Prince Cinder is here for the same reason. We still have to make several stops, but we still hope you will accompany us."
