Chapter 8

Later...

Riker POV

I woke up, realizing I'd cried myself to sleep earlier. What an awful morning...

I sat up, seeing Ellington sitting on the floor against the door, reading. But he looked up at me.

"Hey. How are you feeling?"

"Well I didn't have a nightmare..."

"That's good."

"But I had an awful morning."

"I know. I'm sorry, Riker."

I sighed.

"What time is it?"

"It's almost lunchtime."

"Do I have to go?"

"Yes, Riker."

I rolled my eyes.

"Fine..."

I got up, and sat down next to Ellington on the floor.

"Thanks for going with me today," I said, quietly.

"You're welcome. I didn't mind. I'm just sorry that you went through all that. It was hard to listen to. I can barely imagine how you must be feeling."

I sighed, and laid my head on his shoulder.

"I don't want to be here anymore. I want to go home," I whispered.

"You can't."

"I know... And it sucks."

Later...

Riker POV

Ellington had succeeded in getting me to eat all 3 meals today. By the time dinner had a chance to settle in my stomach, I was actually feeling a lot better. I didn't feel so sick after eating, and I felt like I had some energy again.

Right now we were playing cards in my bedroom. A bunch of the boys on this floor started making fun of me. They called me a bunch of things like crybaby and other stupid things. Ellington reminded me of how I woke everyone up that one night because of my nightmare. And he thinks that's part of why I'm being made fun of. But he just told me to ignore them. And that's why we were in my bedroom. To get away from them.

"I win," Ellington said.

I kept losing. My mind just wasn't with it. I haven't been able to think straight since the crash. The world seems so much more complicated, and I'm becoming frustrated. I can't understand things, I can't focus, and I can't think! My mind is constantly racing. It's like it won't shut off.

I threw the cards in my hand down into the pile Ellington was gathering up.

"You want to play again?" He asked.

"No..."

I crawled into my bed, pulling my blanket over me.

"Hey. You ok?"

"My head hurts."

"We could go to the nurse-"

"No."

"Alright..."

I pushed my blanket off, and sat up.

"I'm going to go to the bathroom really quick. And then can we talk about something?"

"Yeah."

"Ok."

Ellington POV

Riker left the room. Only about a minute later I heard people picking on him. They were calling him a crybaby, scaredy cat, Baby Rikey, and a bunch of other things.
