John woke up at a reasonable time. The sun was just coming between the spaces of curtains. He was about to sit up when an arm stretched out across his chest. It was Karkat, the troll then moved closer and put a fist in John’s hair. “Karkat.” John whispered. Karkat shuffled a bit, but he pressed his face against John’s chest. “Wake up.” John said, he pried the troll’s handout of his hair. Karkat grumbled.

“IT’S STILL EARLY, THE SUN ISN’T ALL THE WAY UP.” Karkat said. John pushed the troll over lightly, careful not to hurt any bandages wounds. Karkat looked at John, his scarlet eyes flickering, his hair practically hid his nubby candied corn horns.

“Well, unlike you, humans wake up around now. Normally before noon.” John said. Karkat launched himself at John and made a playful growling noise. John squeaked as Karkat landed on him. The troll was still heavy, but somehow he was lighter this time.

“YOU HUMANS ARE WEIRD.” Karkat said, John studied the troll’s pale grey face. Karkat’s top row of teeth just barely stuck out against his lower lip in a slight overbite. John couldn’t help but to think Karkat was good looking for a troll.

“We’re weird? Well trolls are weird to us.” John said, he pushed Karkat as much as he could and flipped them over, John pinned him down. Karkat squeaked a little and laughed, he easily flipped them once more.

“YOU HUMAN’S TEETH AREN’T SHARP AT ALL.” Karkat stated, he was kind of straddling John. John’s arms were under the troll’s knees. Karkat pulled at John’s lower lip. “HOW DOD YOU EAT?” Karkat asked. John tried to answer, but the troll’s claw nicked the vulnerable flesh of John’s lip. John flinched a bit and Karkat’s eyes widened.

Blood trickled down John’s lip and Karkat looked at it, he looked afraid. John was about to lick his lips, but Karkat frowned. John froze up as Karkat leaned down, his dark red tongue swiped out against John’s bloody lip.

“K-Kar-“ John was cut off as Karkat’s tongue lapped away the blood. “K-Kat.” John finished. Karkat leaned back and narrowed his eyes a bit. “W-we don’t do that.” John stammered. Karkat scanned John’s face.

“I KNOW THAT, BULGELICKER.” Karkat replied sassily. “I SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH TEREZI BACK IN ALTERNIA.” Karkat muttered. “SHE LICKED BLOOD OFTEN, USED IT TO DECIPHER WHO WAS THERE WITH THE TASTE OF SCENT. SHE CAN’T SEE.” Karkat explained.

“Do you trolls have like, romance and stuff?” John asked. Karkat nodded.

“QUADRANTS.” Karkat answered. “THEY’RE HARD TO EXPLAIN SINCE YOUR KIND JUST HAS REDROM FOR EACH OTHER.” Karkat said. He put a hand on his chest to keep himself from falling. John sighed, he couldn’t help but to feel attracted to the troll. But the troll probably thought John was hideous.

“Karkat, you should get off of me.” John said slowly. Karkat thought for a second and shook his head. John went to grab Karkat’s horns thinking the troll would go limp and fall to the side. John was wrong, the troll’s back arched and he made a low grumbling sound.

“FUCK WHY’D Y-YOU…?” Karkat grumbled. John froze up and let go. Karkat suddenly sprang back, his scarlet eyes on John. “YOU CAN’T KEEP D-DOING THAT.” Karkat hissed.

“I’m sorry Karkat.” John began, Karkat’s eyes flickered and he lunged forward. John squeaked in surprise as the troll pinned him down once more. Karkat suddenly pressed his lips to John’s, it wasn’t exactly gentle either. John tried to protest, he wasn’t really planning on kissing the strange mutant troll, but it happened.

John kissed back with equal force, careful of Karkat’s sharp teeth. John let out a small moan as Karkat put his hands tightly in John’s hair. Karkat froze a bit, he pulled away, eyes wide.

“WHAT WAS THAT?” Karkat asked.

“Humans make that noise when they have pleasure.” John answered awkwardly turning pink. Karkat nodded slowly and there was a knock on the door.

“John, troll, come on out. The younger Nitram is here, he requests a speech with our troll.” Dirk Strider said. Karkat got off the bed and fixed his ruffled (and borrowed) shirt. “Don’t tell me you’re still asleep?!” Dirk asked.

“We’re coming.” John said, he got up and quickly changed clothes. He opened the door, Dirk was wearing a sleeveless cloth shirt and some ripped trousers.

“Morning John.” Dirk said with a wink. “And troll.”

“MY NAME IS KARKAT.” Karkat grumbled. John sighed and grabbed Karkat’s wrist.

“Where are we meeting him?” John asked as he glanced at Dirk. Dirk looked up from watching John’s rear and smirked.

“Near the Great Hall.” Dirk answered. John nodded and left Dirk’s view. The Great Hall was basically where the entrance to the caslte was. John had seen the younger Nitram, he went by the name of Tavros.

Once they reached the Great Hall, Tavros stood from the bench he sat on. He had the large bull-like horns. His hair wasn’t like Karkat’s but it was like a thick black messy war-hawk.

“kARKAT lONG tIME nO sEE.” Tavros said, his ears stuck out a little more than Karkat’s more like a bull’s too, but at a sharp point. Karkat’s were pointy, but they were normally covered by his hair.

“TAVROS!” Karkat said, he scampered forward and tackled the troll. Taros let out a nasally laugh. John reached the two embracing trolls seconds later.

“yOU hAVEN’T cHANGED mUCH kARKAT.” Tavros said with a smile. “rUFIOH aND i wOULD lIKE tO sPEAK tO yOU iN oUR hIVE.” Tavros said.

“JOHN HAS TO COME.” Karkat said. Tavros nodded and gave John a sharp toothed smile. “LET’S GO.” Karkat said. Tavros turned and led the way.

When they got to the Nitram hive, Tavros began talking about the prophecy, The Signless, and Rufioh began talking about Karkat’s ancestor Kankri.

“2o you have permii22iion two leave?” Sollux asked as Gamzee drank some of his favourite drink. Sollux made it for Gamzee, a fizzy beverage they called Faygo.

“YeAh. Gh WaNtS tHe PrOpHeCy To Be CoMpLeTe.” Gamzee answered.

“All the Vanta2’ are 2peciial.” Sollux said, he was packing things in a bag. The journey to Skaia would take a long time. That was only if Karkat turned out to be there. Gamzee looked at Sollux a bit confused. “Theiir mutatiion iin blood ii2 iimportant. The 2iignle22 2tarted ba2iically a revolutiion. But 2iince the kiingdom 2tarted, the revolutiion diied down. “I dOn’T uNdErStAnD tHe PrOpHeCy.” Gamzee muttered.

“The prophecy wa2 wriiten a long tiime ago. Before the GH. Where the mutant blooded troll2 2hall joiin wiith a Hiighblood. 2uppo2ably a new blood would form, and the mutatiion would leave or go two a hiigher rank iin the hemo2pectrum.” Sollux explained.

“DoEs EvErYoNe KnOw AbOuT tHe PrOpHeCy?” Gamzee asked, not at all embarrassed that he didn’t know the whole thing going on .

“Mo2tly troll2 clo2e two GH. But Miituna told me when he tran2lated iit for GH. Ba2iically Zahhak2 and Makara2 and u2 know. Ii beliieve Rufiioh Niitram know2 becau2e he worked a2 a ca2tle hiive guard then.” Sollux explained.

“We WiLl FiNd KaRbRo, RiGhT?” Gamzee asked. Sollux nodded and filled up bottles of Faygo mixed with Sopor for Gamzee. Though Sopor wasn’t meant to be eaten, Gamzee needed it or he’d go berserk sober.
