CHAPTER 1

A DREAM

I was walking alongside at the beach. It was deserted, where the atmosphere was somber, dark and sinister. The sky appeared foreboding and ominous, I shivered in the cool breeze touching my skin.

I felt that I was looking for something… something powerful.

A dark silhouette appeared before my eyes. I followed it and before I even knew my actions, I was running. I was running with a vicious feeling of vengeance.

I saw the man stopped in front of me, about few feet away. He was grinning and suddenly, he disappeared with a whoosh, with the sand and the hard breeze circling around him.

I heard his voice but in a different language, sounds like Latin. A fire burned in me, a need to protect the ones that I love.

My frame shook with energy, with power. My body burned hot, and I felt the energy travel down my arm as I raised it and into my hand.

The flames ignited, a lightning bolt exploded to my hand and hit the spot where he was standing but I missed. The man moved fast as if there was nothing there a while ago, he moved really fast and went in a blur.

I could have hit him and no one should have died for me! I could have stopped him and everyone should be safe. Now it’s my fault! It’s all because of me. I should be the one who’s dead and not them that should’ve been me. I lost them and I failed, I failed … I failed. I have fallen.

The place whooshed with a different pace.

I was now drowning!  I kept on swimming, to reach the top and fought for air. I felt the murky water circling around me, suffocating me, eating me alive.

I saw a figure, a man raising his right hand with blue fire. I think I am feeling crazy enough to see it but it looks really real. How did that fire lit underwater? That is completely illogical.

I was still drowning, trying to swim further to the top – reaching for air, and to save my hopeless life. Then something suddenly grabbed my foot. I tried to wiggle and yanked it as hard as I could.

I felt I was dying.

I couldn’t fight anymore because the force pulling me down was strong. I’m too tired to move and fight. My eyes shut in pain and then suddenly, I heard a voice. I couldn’t really understand what the voice was saying and then after a little while … I opened my eyes and it was blurry.

It’s …

It’s a boy; it was a voice of a boy.

The voice was really worried. Something was shaking me hard. I closed my eyes and felt pain until I cracked them open again. I see him, Its Anthony. “Wake up Lara! Wake up! You’re having nightmares again!” his face was wary and alert.

Finally, I got a grip of myself. The dream faded and it drained all the energy inside me. I sat up quickly – must be adrenaline – gasping for air, and hugged Anthony. I clutched him closer for the fear I had felt.

“It’s okay, I’m here. I won’t let anything happen to you,” his voice was soft and soothing.

I was crying and sweaty too. “It’s the same dream again. I couldn’t save them. I dreamt that I couldn’t save the people that I love.” My voice was like a whisper, like I was saying something without a sound.

“Don’t worry it’s just a dream, Lara.” He wiped my tears away from my cheeks and patted my back. I pulled away from him and I smiled wryly, still gasping for air, I was breathing really hard. He cupped my chin so I could meet this gaze and he studied my face. His face was calm now, a relief look.
