Change the World

Writing

I awoke from a dream of Jerusalem,

where I stood upon a ridge and overlooked the Temple Mount.

I marvelled at the Dome of the Rock and the ancientness of the place.

Behind them lay the Parthenon, mist shrouded in the distance.

I had the sense of the Great Pyramid somewhere in that mist.

I walked barefoot along the gravel path,

sharp stone and burn of thistle drawing me deep into the earth.

The cool moistness of dew kissed grass played with my toes.

Amid them were the seedlings of the new spring growth.

I revelled in the hard stemmed herb and pungent weed.

I did my taichi barefoot in the dust,

feeling every stone and variation, every struggling plant.

I shifted weight and turned and lunged feeling strong and alive.

Within me a shift of awareness of awakening from winter.

I sank into standing tree qi gong and breathed the world.

I’ve awoken to change and intention,

a still quiet unknowable awareness of power and grace and I live.

I wear no shirt and see the scarred skin of an arm nearly torn.

Inside the scars of shattered ribs from falling to the earth.

I breathe life and love and the return of purpose.

I heal the pains of many people,

and in some small part, of the world and the greed that kills.

I write of this world with words to heal hearts and minds.

To lift the imagination to unforeseen possibilities.

I weep at the loss and of death not prevented.

We all write of feelings and desires,

of the first damp tears of grief, of sand between our toes;

of the giggling of children and the luscious touch of true love.

We as writers can take the mind aloft or plunge it below.

I lament the wasted time chasing fun.

We as writers change hearts and lives,

and ease the struggle of the day to day grind.

We open others to dreams and visions not conceived.

We hold power oft unrealised and all too often used

only for the bread and circuses that placate.

You, reading this, do you care?

About the pain and horror that grips our world.

Will you run and hide and refuse to take a stand;

thinking I’m only one voice unheard.

Pick up your pen and write!

Write as if there is no tomorrow.

As if no one will ever read or criticise.

Give words to your greatest dreams of life well lived.

Don't waste your time with fools!

You are a writer!
