                                                          -----Chapter 6----

I arrive at my destination 2 blocks away from my house. I’m so grateful it’s nearby. To let some steam off, I push forward on my skate board and down the ramp. The wind blows back my brown hair and I curve up the ramp and move back down. I do this repeatly , feeling better every time.

My dad used to take me every Sunday since fourth grade, he would let me skate board everywhere. When he asked me to tag along with him on his walk, I immediately grab my skateboard, he would always ask about my day while I speed up to be able to chat with him. Oh my god. I miss him so much. I stop in my track and sit down criss cross in the middle where the ramps meet up. I won’t tear up. I won’t tear up. But that’s a lie, I do something that I haven’t done in forever, I let a tear escape me eyes. I must have been sitting there crying for a while but someone taps my shoulder. I look back but my blurry vision makes it hard for me to know who it is.

“Chloe, you okay?” A very familiar voice says.

“Yeah, Keaton” I wipe my red eyes. He doesn’t need to be asked, so he goes right ahead and takes a seat by me.

“You skateboard?” I ask.

He chuckles. “You’re here crying and that’s what you ask?”

“I guess I am” A slight smile forms on my lips.

“But yes I do, do you skateboard?” I love how he is not bringing up why I broke down.

I nod. “Yeah I do, I’ve always skateboard since fourth grade because my dad—“ I suck in air, expanding my stomach, and let a tear roll down my check.

“Your dad?” he questions.

I nod once again; He notices that I clearly don’t want to talk about it.

“Here” He extends his hand to me; I grab a hold of it, and lift me up. “Follow my lead” He takes off up the ramp on his skateboard. I do what he says and follow him. We begin skate boarding for a while, showing off moves to each other, and if I don’t say so myself, I think he is quite impress. We take a break, catching our breath, and walk down the sidewalk with our skateboards in our hands.

“Where did you learn to move like that?” Keaton asks amazed.

“Just saw some boys do them when they were here, so I try doing it myself, but I always land on my face whenever I do”

Keaton laughs “Well, you did great not falling on your face”

“Why thank you” I smile brightly at him. “Where are we going anyway?”

“You’ll see” he simply replies. Um? It’s almost 8 and my mom won’t be happy that I’m out late, especially with a boy, but he is our neighbor. I could just say I was showing him around town. Which is the opposite cause clearly, he is guiding me somewhere I don’t even know where. We approach a bright neon sign that says

“ICECREAM & SHAKES”

Oh my Keaton. “You definitely know what a girl needs to cheer her up” I see a tiny smile form on his lips.

The women behind the counter asks what kind of ice-cream we would like

“Mint chocolate chip” We say in unison. I blush and let Keaton order.

“2 mint chocolate chip on waffle cones” The lady does a sloppy job at putting the ice-cream scoops on top of each other. Keaton pays for the dessert, if I brought money, I would’ve protested but I couldn’t do much without money.

“I’ll pay you back, I swear” I move my tongue over the ice-cream taking in its flavor.

“It’s fine, Hukunamata” He begins to lick his ice-cream.

He was smart to bring a car instead of doing what I did and skateboard the whole way here, at first it seemed like a smart idea but now my feet are cramping up and I just want to collapse in my bed. We slide into his Red mustang and take off back home. Thank goodness we live by each other so I wouldn’t feel weird about him driving me home. As I move the ice-cream towards my mouth, Keaton slams onto the brakes making the Ice cream plunge onto my face. Now I have ice-cream up my nose. How pleasant.

I lightly shriek while Keaton is bursting out laughing behind the wheel. “I think you got something on your face little one”

“HAHAHA SO FUNNY” notes the sarcasm. “Just give me a napkin” I demand.

“Mmmhh, nah, I like this look on you” He won’t pass over his napkin, I stretch my arm out to take a hold of it, he pulls away too quickly. “Tsk, tsk”

“Damn it Keaton” Now I take off my seatbelt and lean my body against his. I try to ignore the sparks when I touch him, when I finally got the rough paper napkin; it was already too late, my precious mint chocolate chip ice-cream made contact with his hair.

“hah that’s what you get” I stick out my tongue in his direction. Really, I should feel awful but hey, he wouldn’t cough up the napkin.

“Oh really now?” He flicks the ice-cream from his hair onto my shirt.

“Hey, hey, no” I tease, I turn my attention to the front of the car realizing there is a green bulb in front of us.

“Green light!” I exclaim.

From the mini scream that come out my mouth, Keaton presses his foot onto the pedal and we make out way home in an ice-cream mess.

“Thanks again” I say as we reach my door steps.

“No prob Chlo, Chlo”

“haha, is that my new nickname?” I smile.

“For now, till I come up with a better one, little one” He returns the smile. Melted mint chocolate ice-cream drips from his hair and down his shirt.

“Go clean up mint boy” I hit him in the shoulder not noticing that now I have min chocolate chip soup all over my hand. My face shows disgust and I know it, which makes Keaton smirks.

“Alright I’m going to take a shower” I swing my door open and turn to face Keaton before I shut it. “Thanks for everything, you really did make my day a whole lot better which nobody can really do that” When I finish, I step inside, shutting the door behind me and leaving an cute Keaton behind. Maybe having him as a neighbor won’t be as bad as I imagine.
