Chapter 14: But, not till the very end.

The class got over and Sasha, for the first time spoke to Arjun and it turned out to be quite good. She had always sidelined all the other guys who ever tried to penetrate through her life's bubble. It was always only Vikram, her first true love! But, now that she was staying away from him, she actually got to 'know' a really sweet guy, whom she earlier considered a douche. They spoke about a common topic, which Sasha loved immensely : books and reading. She was shocked when he told her that his recent love was Dan Brown and that he loved the maze like story of Inferno because that is exactly what she felt! They were pointed out twice by their firm, yet otherwise sweet math teacher: Mr. Atul Kapoor, to stop talking. Sasha's cheeks reddened, so did Arjun's. What she couldn't help but notice was the way Vikram's muscles tensed and how a scowl made it's way up to his face. When Arjun and Sasha parted, they exchanged a one sided hug, which, to her surprise didn't feel awkward at all. She now had her final "new class" which was engineering drawing. She had to put up with this one because she sucked at drawing and by that you should know, that no one could understand her drawings except the people who had a passion for random shapes and lines, more professionally known as modern art. That was one of the reasons she hated biology, too many diagrams!
She thankfully had Shayna with her in this class and Vikram, much to her displeasure.
She sat through the class just because Shayna was sitting beside her. Sasha actually paid attention to what the teacher was saying and felt good about it. When Vikram was around, he invaded her thoughts, but she managed to push him off this time and felt that she won. When the class was going to get over, the teacher announced a project. It was a partner project and the pairs were supposed to be selected randomly. Fish bowl like thing. She was so annoyed when Shayna got paired up with Rahul; a nerd whom nobody noticed, poor guy. Sasha got paired up with Vikram, because, obviously. Life had to screw her over. She spoke to the teacher so that she could get Shayna or any other student as her partner.
"Ma'am, excuse me."
"Yes?"
"Can you please change my partner?"
"Do you have problem, miss?"
"Umm.. Yes"
"Well, you should know that nothing can be done, the list is final. Deal with it"
"Okay, thank you ma'am"
Yeah, thanks, for everything.
Sasha was really sad and was annoyed by looking at the smirk on Vikram's face. When she and Shayna left for their room, Vikram followed suit and grabbed Sasha by the arm.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Sasha sneered
"What am I doing? What are you doing? What have I even done? Why are you ignoring me like this?"
"Shayna, go back to the room, I'll be there in a minute." Shayna rolled her eyes at Vikram and stormed off.
"What?"
"Listen to me please"
"Listen, I don't care okay? About you or your fake sweetness. I am done with you! But, unfortunately I am stuck with you for this shit project!!" Sasha screamed because she had to hide the tears which were threatening to fall and the heart which was breaking bit by bit. People had started to collect around them and were looking at the maniacal scene going on. "Okay, listen, let's just talk somewhere else, okay?"
"No! I am not going anywhere with you"
"We are just going to our room" her heart fluttered at the way he addressed the room as 'theirs'. But, this was the guy who wanted to get into her pants and the one who broke her heart, not once but, twice.
"More like, your room?"
"What?" He was shocked after hearing that, his voice came out extremely shaky, as if he was about to break down.
"I have shifted my room, with Riya" she almost whispered to prevent him from breaking down completely.
"Ohh! Then I guess there is no point, when you have already decided the punishment without knowing and telling me at least that what happened, I can't do anything. You know nothing Sasha!" He said with a cracking voice while poking her slightly on her shoulder. "You are a bloody coward, you just know how to run away from problems, you can't face them. You are opinionated and don't give a fuck about anybody's feelings. You think that there is no other side to any story you hear! So great, do whatever fuck you want to do! Goodbye!" He screamed and stormed off, slamming the door shut.
Sasha stood there, frozen, taking in all that he said. She was moved, not because what he said had hurt her but, because whatever he said was the truth. She never realised when she had started sobbing. She ran towards her room and went straight to the bathroom. Closed up and isolated. She told Riya and Shayna to give her some space. They agreed. She splashed some water on her face but, the burning sensation in her eyes didn't stop, to get rid of the heaviness in her chest, she broke down. She cried and cried till her head started hurting, till her eyes looked puffy and blood shot, till her nose came running down. Till she realised that she made a horrible mistake.

Vikram entered his room. He slammed the door out of sheer annoyance and anger. He then, slumped down on the ground and opened the dam in his eyes which was ready to break any second. He was angry at her for not telling him what was wrong and leaving him hanging, but most of all, he was angry at himself for doing something that pissed her off, so much so that she abandoned their room and left. After he was done crying, he started to think, trying to remember the events of the last day as before that, everything was fine. They were going to kiss for God's sake! That is when it dawned on him, he was too drunk the last night and had decided that he will tell her what he truly felt, how much he loved her. But then, he didn't remember, if he actually told her or not, he went with the fact that maybe he did and she got annoyed. Wait, did that mean that she didn't love him? But, they were so close in 10th and they were back together like old times, they almost kissed! What happened? But, if she didn't love him that meant he had to distance himself from her like she was doing then. He knew that something had died inside him that day and that was his ability to love.

Sasha had decided that she will be going to meet him and clear the air. She couldn't stay away from him for so long because, obviously. But, before going to him, she decided to walk around. She told Shayna and Riya that she was okay and that she was going to get her love back. They both were happy to see their best friend in glee. As Sasha walked, she came across the massive football field, it was getting dark and it was the perfect opportunity to sit there and unwind the knots in her brain. She approached the empty bleachers and sat on the cool iron seats, it had already started to heal her. That's when she saw Arjun roaming around like a vagabond. He waved at her and approached her. He sat next to her and asked the reason for the huge bags under her beautiful eyes. She couldn't help but let out a sob and when he kept his hand on her shoulder, she completely broke down. He comforted her and asked her what was wrong, he wasn't pushing her but Sasha told him everything, how it all happened, how she fell in love with Vikram and how he said something which she misinterpreted. He then hugged her and told her to stop crying, she did. She felt comfortable around him, the attraction she felt initially was completely replaced by love but, for a very good friend. They sat like that in the silence, when Sasha heard some rustling from behind, they abruptly got up from their position and looked around for the cause of the sound. But, there was no one in sight. He then told her to take care and talk to him and clear things out. She sighed and nodded.
"Well, I am always there for you as a friend because my chance is gone." He joked to make her laugh
"Awww. Thank you so much Arjun. You know that surprisingly, you are the only guy best friend I have." She said as she pecked him on the cheek.
She happily left for Vikram's room, or rather their room.

Vikram was really irritated and sad because of the recent happenings in his love life. He knew that he had lost his chance of true love, again. He just couldn't make it all sink in. He decided to go out for some drinks and get completely wasted. As he was crossing the football field, he heard hushed voices and went on to see who it was, when he saw Sasha leaning on Arjun's shoulder, his eyes got blinded by tears of jealousy and betrayal. He, on an instinct stepped back, accidentally tripping on a log. He had to get away, from them, from her, from his life! Before they could come and see him, he had left, for some place to find tranquility...

A/N: OMG! I don't like this. Both of them have no idea what the other one feels. Sigh!
