CHAPTER FOUR: GREEN JEMS

It was night time in Mandrid. The sky was a dark blue and the moon cast a bright glow over the city making lampposts almost unnecessary. The moon here looked lumpy and misshapen. It bulged on one side and sagged at the bottom. With a shock jay noticed that the moon was not deformed but just that there was a cluster of three perfectly round moons. Each moon was not fully white, they had tints of blue, purple, and pink. The stars shone like Jayla had never seen stars shine, they almost twinkled they were so bright. The long winding pathway that lead from the hospital to the cobble stone streets was flanked by magnificently well kept gardens. Most of the flowers where bigger than her and where all bright colours. Some of the bigger and wider plants had what appeared to be well disguised mouths and little razor sharp teeth. It looked suspiciously like if you walked to close, they would clamp their jaws over your head and eat you whole. Statues and water fountains stood tall and gleaming white amongst the vibrant plants.

The grass swayed back and forth as if it were dancing to the moon. There was no breeze tonight but, jay got the feeling that the grass would careen in a memorizing way no matter what the weather.

Keoin strolled behind her trying to be quite and let her absorb this new world. Her world. They finally reached the quite streets of the town. The sweater Keoin had given her, had torn because a plant had taken a snap at her but missed and got a mouthful of thread instead.

Little shops sat at the edge of the street which had no sidewalks lining them. The shops looked like pictures jay had seen of homes back in the medieval times, when Knights existed and people thought ordinary woman were witches. If they'd only known that somewhere else real witches walked about. The streets where clean of any sign of litter, or trash cans for that matter. The air was clean and pure, unlike the air back on earth that always smelled like garbage and gasoline. Jayla looked down a small ally between two houses and noticed that in the distance there was a gathering of houses that had boards covering up the windows.

“ what happened there?” as soon as she asked she knew what the reply would be. “ most of those homes belonged to members of the lightening clan. No one will go near them now. A great area of this city is abandoned because people fear what will happen to them if they were to live in the houses of the murdered.”

jay tore her gaze away. On the other side of the street there was a lake that was as smooth as glace and looked oddly familiar, but something was missing ...

“ why are there no cars on the streets?” she wanted to distract her mind from the eerie lake.

“as darkslayers we have other means of transportation and for short distances we walk or use bergie's, their like the horses you have on earth.”Keoin was looking up at the rolling hills searching for something

Keoin stopped an turned to Jayla with a wide smile. He gestured to a grassy hill spotted with patches of trees. A castle sat on top the hill, its towers piercing the night sky. Jayla was quick to notice that the castle sat on top of the hill that had the strange lake nestled at the bottom.
