Prologue

Loud, booming EDM music pounded my ears and chest as I step inside. I let my eyes adjust to the darkness for quite some time, then drank the dancing neon lights I could see all over the familiar place.

I made my way through the sea of people, aware of all the eyes glancing at my direction. Some approached me to say hi, while others complimented my black jewel dress, which made my light blonde hair stand out, or my black 5-inch pumps. I'm not in the mood for chitchats, they should take that hint.

I need a drink fast, a strong one, or maybe a couple of shots—whatever. I just wanted to get fucking wasted tonight, tutal iyon naman talaga ang pinunta ko rito sa Havoc. I wanted to drink and drink until I forget the tons of bullshit in my head and try to numb my aching chest.

"Irene, here!"

I turned my head and saw my friend, Sandy, motioning for me to go to where she and my other friends were. I pointed at the bar instead and went there.

"Chivas, on the rocks," I muttered as soon as I sat on the high stool "And keep it coming."

The bartender, Sig, winked at me "You got it, Miss Irene."

I would have flashed a smile at him or purr back, but I couldn't even lift one corner of my mouth and mean it. All I could do was heave a sigh and let my head fall down on my propped hands. This is just fucking ridiculous.

I peeked on my side when I felt someone sat on the stool beside me. A man was facing me, an elbow propped on the table. He grinned "Hi."

Huminga ako ng malalim at inalis ang tingin ko sa kanya nang hindi siya sinasagot, but the man didn't budge. When I lifted my gaze again, he was still as he was, smiling brightly.

"You're Irene Mondragon, right?" he inquired "I'm Zian Pascual, by the way—."

"Get lost."

His extended hand was stopped mid-air as he moved closer to me "Pardon, Miss Mondragon?"

I looked at him deadpanned and gritted my teeth "I said, get the fucking lost."

Agad na nagsalubong ang kilay noong Zian tsaka tumayo at tumalikod na, his harsh words and curses reaching my ears.

This was what I don't want, lashing out on other people because of my own distress. I couldn't help it and I couldn't say it was my fault. They were provoking me to do so.

I was ready to hiss at that person but it turned out to be Sandy.
