Chapter 18

'Addy. Wake up.'

I bolted up I bed and caused Mason to wake up too.

"What's wrong babe?" He murmured sleepily.

'Brenden what's wrong?'

I didn't answer Mason as I waited for his reply.

'They're coming and we have to go and fight now. I love you Addy and stay safe. I won't be able to talk to you until this is all over and please don't try to mind link me or anyone in the pack. Bye baby sis.'

'Brenden! I- I love you too. Be safe.' I began to cry and Mason looked extremely confused but hugged me to him and rubbed my back.

"Addy. What's wrong sweetheart?" He whispered in my ear, but I had a feeling he already knew what was wrong.

"They- they're coming. The attack has begun." I whispered. Mason deflated at these words and held me closer. A few minutes later Christine came into the room with tears flowing down her rosy cheeks.

"Addy, is it really happening?" She asked.

I could only nod my head and watch her break down. She came over to the bed and we comforted each other. Mason got up to go tell his dad that the attack had started. "You-" she hiccuped, "should go tell Tasha." She finished an hiccuped again. I nodded and we got up to go where Tashas room was.

-

Breakfast was a solemn event. Even the children were quieter than usual. My eyes were red and puffy. Mason said he wasn't going to go to work today and that Tasha would understand but I insisted he went.

"Addy, just come and see me any time if you need me." He told me. I nodded my head and he leaned down and kissed me softly.

"I will." I murmured into his warm solid chest. He held me a couple seconds longer before lightly kissing my head and walking down the porch with Chris to go to work.

"Only a little more time. Now that the fighting's started it will be over soon enough. Your father will see to that." My mother came up behind me while I watched Mason go.

"I know mom, but I can't help but feel that something is wrong. Like Brenden wasn't telling me everything. I don't know." I sighed and leaned on the porch railing for support.

"If Brendens not telling you something he has a good reason sweetie. Your brother loves you more than the world and he's probably just trying to protect you. Why don't you go out with Tasha, Christine, and Ashley. Go shopping or something. Get your minds off things for a while." She suggested.

I sighed again and nodded at her suggestion. "I'll see if they want to go. And mom, are you doing okay? You haven't been away from dad in I don't know how long."

"I'm fine, I have been away from him for 5 months before and that was extremely hard. This is nothing." She waved it off.

"Alright. I'm gonna go find Tasha." I waved goodbye and went in the house to find her. Before I could find her I ran into Christine. "Hey Chris, how are you doing?" I asked her. Her eyes were bloodshot and she looked even worse than when we were at breakfast this morning.

"I'm managing." She sounded hollow and it scared me.

"Do you want to go shopping with Tasha, Ashley, and I in a little bit? Get your mind off things?" I put my hand on her arm and tried to get her to look at me.

"Um, I guess but I need to take a shower and try to look presentable first." She said. Her voice was soft and I couldn't understand her completely.
