My head is throbbing and my left leg is stiff with pain. I'm so sore. I want to open my eyes, but they're so heavy.
"So everything is okay?" I hear an axious voice question. It takes me only a few moments before I recognise it as Jaidyn's.
Where am I? Why is Jaidyn here? Great. He's found me, and now he's going to want to talk.
I don't want to talk.
"Everything is fine, Mr. Jefferson. Heartbeat and position are completely normal," A formal voice assures Jaidyn quite quickly. "And I can guarantee you it will stay that way,"
"For both of them?" Jaidyn asks.
"Yes," The man reassures him.
I try really hard to open my eyes now. I need to know where I am. I want to know who Jaidyn is talking to, and what they're talking about.
And I want to see Jaidyn. I didn't realise until now that I've missed him.
"She's awake," The same male's voice sounds suddenly, and it's much closer to me now. "She's just struggling to open her eyes,"
"How do you know?" Jaidyn asks anxiously, much closer now too.
"Because her vitals have changed on the monitor," The man explains quickly before I feel a touch on my unharmed arm. "Melissa? I know you can hear me. I'm your doctor. You're in the hospital,"
Hospital?
Holy shit! I crashed into a tree! That explains the aching of my body. Damn! Dad's going to flip his shit.
"Melissa I know you're having trouble opening your eyes," My doctor says slowly. "It's just because of the drugs we gave you. I need you to try really, really hard,"
I never thought there'd be a day I couldn't open my eyes. Well, not until I died anyway. But I'd be dead, so I wouldn't be conscious to try.
I open my mouth first, and when I talk my voice sounds horrid. "Water,"
"I have some here for you," The doctor agrees quickly. "But first I'd like you to force those pretty eyes open,"
"Hey!" Jaidyn snaps at my doctor.
"Mr. Jefferson, please, I'm married," The doctor sighs and he sounds really fed up of Jaidyn. I find myself grinning. "And I'm twice her age,"
"Exactly," Jaidyn agrees. "So don't say her eyes are pretty. You've never even seen them," He mutters his last sentence petulantly.
"Your boyfriend is a work of art," The doctor laughs.
And then suddenly my eyes are opening of their own accord, and the light surrounding the room is blinding me. My gaze finds Jaidyn and the doctor and I blink. "He is not my boyfriend,"
The doctor grins and Jaidyn glares at me. And then he's squeezing me in a bone-wrenching hug.
"Thank God you're okay, Melissa," He whispers into my ear. "I've been so fucking worried about you,"
"I'm fine," I mutter awkwardly. "I'm just in pain, and you're not helping,"
He pulls away from me and I can tell he's hurt by my words. I purposely do not look at him, my gaze instead catching the doctors.
"Hey there," The man smiles. He passes me a plastic cup of water with ice and I take it quickly. My mouth is so dry. "I'm doctor Newman. Do you remember what happened for you to have ended up in here?"
