Chapter one

My name is Megan Andrews. I am thirty five years old. I was until last week part of a pair, no not my husband, boyfriend or that sort of thing. What I meant was that I had an identical twin sister. We were two peas in a pod; well that's what they called us for a long time. Anyway getting back to what I need to say. Me and my sister Katie have been through a lot in our lives. Back when we were just three years old our parents were taking us to visit some friends of theirs, our car was hit by a drunk driver. Sorry for the lack of emotion I just don't remember it. I would like to tell you our story, I owe it to my sister and if I tell my story I may help myself. You see they are or were after the two of us. I am now on my own, I need to do something. I can not stay in hiding the rest of my days. I have already lost my sister, most of my friends and my Husband. I have tried to conseal my identity; I have my children and grandchildren to protect. They are involved in this too. My children and also Katie's children have had to grow knowing they can not do anything about who they are. If we are found, it will be over. I think by telling this story I will protect them. It will be out.

I will tell this story from memories and also our diaries. This is how we kept a track on our lives our friends, enemies and also how we kept safe.

After the death of our parents we were spent to many places. At first we were sent to our Grandparents place. It was a beautiful place, a small country cottage with so many coloured flowers. I still have a little tin box with the petals we collected one day with our Grandmother. It was so peaceful. I and Katie were only there a matter on months. I am not sure what happened the only thing I remember was that a group of people came. They all looked huge, like giants to us. They were all very nice but MY Grandmother was crying and pleading with the men and women. The only thing I caught was that they did not think we were safe.

We were sent to live with the most horrible family. Our Grandparents cut off all contact. I have a letter also from my Grandparents from the last day we saw them. They had tears in their eyes we were crying too. I did not understand their rejection.

Megan, Katie

We love you with all our hearts, this is the hardest thing we have ever had to do but your safety must come first. Your parents did their best to protect you but died trying.

Please be careful. By doing this you can both live normal lives. Please remember you are so important and hopefully some day we will meet again. Once you reach eighteen you will doth get a trust fund use it wisely. Katie please be a brave girl and be wise. I know you are and Megan, look after your sister. Be honest and true to each other. You must never be separated, you need to stay together. Keep us in your hearts.

We love you see you someday soon.

In the package you both have a necklace, they will choose you not the other way around wear them; they will protect you and remind you of wear you came from.

Grandma Lu and Granddad Joel

I miss them to this day, I did not understand the message until further on in my life. Sometimes I hated them for leaving us. But now I know they did things for a reason. They were right our necklaces', they did sort of choose us. Mine has not left my neck in almost forty years. I remember my mother wearing something like it. It is a small heart with a star in the middle. Katie had a small star with a heart in the middle I have hers also now. She didn't need it now.

The family we were sent to live with had a son of their own. He was the apple of his mother's eye. His father on the other hand knew what he was like. Tommy Higgins was his name. He was ten years old. We were always made to do what he told us when his father was out of the way. Mr John as we called him was so nice.

He taught us a lot of things while we were there. We still have the books. Most of the things he taught us, we didn't understand. We were taught a lot of manners we were taken too a meeting once a month, I hated this everyone was always so angry. We had to play in a strange room. Katie was always so at home there. I remember being made to wear strange clothes too. I was always one for wearing pink skirts and dress's but these were dark clothes that had a picture of an animal on them. I know that animal not but at this time will not say. You must understand the battle still goes on. I have to win.

Katie and I lasted there for around four years. With the knowledge we had learnt and the books we had, Mrs Higgins said she could not take it any more she did not want us in her house. It must have been hard for her I suppose she had her family and what with the new baby on the way we had too go.

Tommy was by this time fourteen. He made our lives hell for just over a year but as he turned 11 he changed. He wasn't the immature child he once was. We were protected by him at all times. We were really great friends by the time we left. Katie was also very much attached. They always kept in touch. Letter by letter back and forth they were always talking. I got the occasional letter too. I must admit I was jealous of their friendship.

We were moved to a child's home at the age of seven. I suppose it was ok for a home. We had always had too share so that did not worry us. Crazy as it sounds the next few years were quite good. We both did very well in school. We sometimes got offers for foster homes but the family's always seemed to pull out at the last minute may be we were cursed or something. Who knows? Katie was brilliant she learnt a lot of self protection class's too one of which was karate. I did not do that but I suppose it was her thing. We made a few friends there. Most come and go. But we were always a unit. That's how it should be.

Well with all the updates from our past out of the way I will use the diaries now to help me let you know our story. I hope you don't think badly of either of us. I need your help. There is still hope.
