Later that night, I heard a knock on the door.

"Hey Maya." Riley said, setting her car keys on the table.

"Hey. Thanks for helping me thank of ideas." I said, adjusting my leg on the pillow.

"No problem! Where is Lucas though?" She said, looking around the empty house.

I had to make sure Lucas wasn't here when Riley was.

I couldn't have him knowing anything.

"I made him take Annie out. I just have that power." I said.

Riley just nodded. "That should be nice."

I nodded and started thinking of an idea.

I had an idea in my head but it's kind of a long shot.

I don't have the kind of money and second, it'd take forever to earn.

I sighed, doodling on a piece of paper. "I got nothing."

"Well, what does Lucas like?"

I shrugged my shoulders. It's kind of sad I couldn't think of anything, especially since I've known him since 7th grade.

But he likes baseball, but I wanted to get him something more...

As if Riley was reading my mind, she said "anything baseball related?"

I shook my head. "No no. That's too small."

Riley raised an eyebrow. "Too small?"

"Let me rephrase that. I want to get him something more unforgettable." I said.

Riley crossed her legs. "Okay then."

After about 10 minutes, Riley left since Lucas would probably be home soon.

"I think I got an idea in mind. I'll text you." I said to her.

She nodded and went out to her car, leaving.

I stayed on the couch, since I couldn't really move anyway.

Okay, so the idea I had was to buy Lucas a plane ticket...

The thing is Lucas came from Texas to start helping me again and he had no possible way to visit his family.

His family could always come here, but I feel like it would be more special in Texas.

There was no way I had enough money for a plane ticket, especially since his birthday is tomorrow.

I sighed, looking at my paper filled with doodles.

I didn't know what I was going to do.

Lucas's POV
I pushed Annie in her scroller, going around the park.

The park was a nice place to be at night and apparently babies loved parks.

Maya had kicked me out of the house.

I don't know why but I'm sure she has some secret reason behind it.

Not that I'm worried or anything.

I saw a middle aged woman come up to me and look at Annie.

"Is this your little sister?" She asked, examining Annie with a smile.

I didn't really know what to say.

"Umm no...she's my daughter." I said finally.

The woman looked up at me and her smiling facial expression changed.

"Oh. Well that's nice."

She then walked away and I looked in her direction.

Okay, nosy much? Thanks.

But I've dealt with this a couple times before.

I looked at the time and decided to drive Annie back home.

~~~
Once we got home, I left Annie's scroller in the car and picked her up.
Annie was actually learning to walk a little bit.
But, we saved that for when we were on softer floors.
I went into the house to find it unlocked.
I saw Maya sitting on the couch, looking a little frustrated.
I put my keys down and said, "babe are you okay?"
She looked at me, surprised to see me. She must've not heard me come in.
She started talking. "Lucas I'm sorry but do you think I complain a lot?"
"No. Why?"
Maya sighed. "I just feel like I do and I probably annoy you."
I went over to her and sat down. "I've never been annoyed by you."
"Really?"
"Yes. You're the best thing to happen to me."
I got a little deep there but I kept talking, "besides Annie."
I ruffled the small blonde curls on Annie's head and handed her to Maya.
Maya was blushing, which means my mission was accomplished.
"Don't you ever worry about money? We are planning on getting married and don't have that kind of cash." Maya said.
"True. But I'm going to start searching for another job soon. It'll all work out." I said.
I suddenly thought of something, "please tell me you aren't getting me a big present for my birthday."
Maya looked at me, amused. "Nope."
I smiled. "Good. Because I don't need it."
"And why so?"
"I don't want you spending that much money on you."
I could tell Maya was already thinking of ideas when I said that.
She adjusted herself on the seat, holding a sleepy Annie in her hands.
"Well, I will buy whatever I want to buy you." She said. "Now, can you get me my wheelchair?"
I grabbed her wheelchair from the side and commented, "you're like a old lady."
"Oh shush." I heard her say.
She got into the wheelchair and I grabbed annie, taking her upstairs.
Once I put Annie in her crib, I softly kissed her forehead.
Whenever I looked at her hair that was growing, I always thought of Maya.
It was a nice feeling.
I went downstairs to see Maya sitting in her wheelchair by the stairs.
"You know, I probably should've known this wouldn't work." She said.
I just laughed. "I can carry you."
She sighed, having no choice. "Okay whatever."
