~a week later~
Lucas walked into the kitchen with his work uniform on.

Today was his first official day at work.

"Will you come visit me?" He said, edging closer to me.

I smiled at the invite. "I would love to but I can't, have to do some schoolwork."

Lucas groaned. "School is overrated."

"Of course it is. But I'm almost to graduating early."

He planted a kiss on my forehead and then went over to Annie. "Be good today."

She didn't answer, obviously, and just smiled up at him.

"Bye. Good luck today." I said to him as he left the room.

I heard the front door shut and I took a sip out of my coffee.

Things have been okay between us since last week.

I still think something is going on but I'll just ignore it for now.

I looked over at Annie who was eating her food messily.

"What do you Annie? Should I work?"

She just made baby noises and threw her bowl to the ground.

I stood up, picking up the bowl and putting it in the sink.

"Let's just pretend that's a no, I'm lazy."

She giggled and I picked her up out of the high chair and put her in the play pen.

I watched netflix for awhile until I found the motivation to do some work.

I started typing on the laptop, figuring out some algebra equations.

At the movie theater

Lucas walked into the building and put his stuff down by the employee room.

He walked up to Missy's office and took a deep breath.

Before he could knock, she opened the door and gave Lucas a look.

"Hello Lucas. Be prepared to work hard."

Lucas sighed, scratching the back of his head. This should be interesting.

---
He was cleaning up some popcorn from one of the theaters and looked to his side.

Missy was watching him and writing on a clipboard.

"Is this all because of what happened in high school?" Lucas asked.

Missy looked up from him and showed no facial expression. "This is what a job is. Maybe you would know if you didn't have a child at 18."

Lucas put the broom down and walked up to her. "Excuse me?"

Missy shook it off. "Oh nothing."

Lucas took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, but we never had chemistry. I belong with Maya and only Maya."

Missy gave him a slight smile. "Of course. Now there's more theaters you need to clean up."

They were walking towards another one when Lucas stopped. "You aren't really the boss of me."

"I'm the assistant manger. She put me in charge of you. Now go."

"Can I at least get a lunch break?"

Missy stared at him and rolled her eyes. "Fine. You have 10 minutes."

Lucas didn't move and missy blinked. "Now go!"

He walked away and headed towards the employee area.

He didn't really want a lunch break, he just wanted to call Maya.

He dialed her number which he knew by heart and waited for her to answer.

"Hello?" He heard her beautiful voice.

"Hey babe."

"Hey. Shouldn't you be working?"

"Yeah. But I took a break just for you."

"That's cute. But get back to work."

Lucas groaned. "I'm too lazy."

He heard Maya laugh. "I finished my work early so I can come visit you."

He smiled but then caught sight of missy motioning him to be done. "Umm no. I mean you don't have to, I'm fine, stay home. I got to go bye."

He hung up quickly and looked at missy. "What now?"

"Your break is up."

"That was only like 5 minutes..."

"Tough luck. Now can you go get the cleaning supplies from the closest?"

Lucas sighed, getting up slowly and leaving the room.

Missy caught sight of Lucas's phone and looked at his lock screen of Maya and him.

She quickly slipped the phone into her pocket as Lucas got back.

"Okay! Let's go." Missy said, leading the way.
