Chapter 17

The front door opened, making a loud noise as it shut.

"Sorry if I'm late." The person said, stepping inside.

Everyone turned around to look at the person.

Riley and Lucas saw who it was right away and exchanged looks.

Maya was currently in the kitchen, feeding Annie.

Everybody started talking again, and the person just stood there.

Lucas started walking away from the scene.

He didn't even invite her.

Missy Bradford was at his daughters party.

Maya's POV:
I finished feeding Annie some baby peaches and put the bowl away.

I cleaned her face up and lifted her up.

"Time to get back to your party." I said, walking into the living room.

I was suddenly stopped by Lucas. "Oh hey."

I noticed he was stuttering, which meant something was wrong.

"What's up?" I said, holding Annie on my hip.

"Uhhh..." His voice trailed off.

"Maya you gotta see this!" I heard Kira call from the living room.

I pushed past Lucas and saw Kira standing by the front door.

Right next to her was someone I felt like I reconigzed.

"Missy?" I said.

She crossed her arms. "Maya. So we meet again."

I felt my stomach start to turn and questions go through my mind.

How did she get here? Was she even invited?

I pulled Kira aside and said in a low voice, "did you invite her?"

"No way. I didn't even know she still lived in town until now." Kira said.

I sighed, looking around the room.

"But I kinda overheard that Lucas invited her."

I blinked. "Where's you hear that?"

"A few minutes ago actually."

"Who? What? How?" I asked.

Kira laughed at me. "One question at a time, Maya."

She then spoke again, "I heard Lucas tell Riley he invited her."

Why would he do that?

I started walking away. "I gotta talk to Lucas."

I found Lucas in the living room. "Lucas!"

He turned around, with an odd expression on his face.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

He nodded, not saying anything.

I sighed and decided i would talk to him in private, after the party.

What an interesting 1st birthday for Annie, even though she had no idea what was going on whatsoever.

I looked around the room, and saw missy standing by Riley.

Riley didn't look that interested in what missy was saying though.

Missy caught me looking at her and came over.

"Hi Maya" she said, all sweetly.

"Hello."

She continued to fake smile at me, and I slowly started walking towards Riley.

Missy then pulled on me and I turned around.

What the heck?

"Don't you know why I'm here?" She said, lowering her voice.

I blinked. "No. I don't even know how you got invited."

I couldn't bring myself to believe Lucas actually invited her...

Missy took an invite out of her pocket. "I invited myself."

I didn't say anything.

She put it back in her pocket. "You know, I'm Lucas's boss right."

She smirked and I continued to say nothing.

Well, I do now...

Now I could see the old missy slowly start to come.

"I'm here to tell you something..." She said, all serious.

I rolled my eyes. "Like I care."

Missy looked surprised that I sassed her.

Back in high school, I never really stood up for myself.

Missy then made a comeback. "So you don't care that Lucas and I kissed?"

She then walked away from me before I could react.
