Choi Sooyoung (Hangeul: 최수영) or Soa Choi (Hangeul: 소아최), known simply as Soa her stage name (Hangeul: 소아) born January 30, 2000 in Adelaide, Australia is an actress, singer, dancer, rapper and Korean songwriter. In 2020, she debuted as one of the seven member of the girl group DIVINE and its sub-unit DL in 2023. She made her acting debut in 2020 in the Netflix series "Sweet Home".

Career

2000 - 2019 : early life and pre-debut

Soa on January 30, 2000, in Adelaide, Australia. She lived there for 10 years before moving to Seoul, South Korea.

In July 2014, she joined JYP Entertainment after being spotted at one of her volleyball matches.

In 2017, Soa participated in the reality survival programs MixNine and Stray Kids.

In May 2019, she eventually left JYP and joined Excel Entertainment.

2019 - present : DIVINE debut, acting debut

On October 31, 2019, Excel Entertainment revealed Soa as one of the seven members in their new girl group DIVINE. On January 10, 2020, Soa officially debuted as a member of DIVINE with the release of their single album, led by the single "CLOSER" under her stage name Soa.

On September 4, 2020, it was confirmed that Soa would appeared in the KBS2 drama Dear. M, which was to be released in 2021. The airing of the drama was postponed indefinitely after producer was accused of school bullying. After a nearly two-year delay, the first six episodes of Dear. M were released globally on June 29, 2022, through the streaming service Viki. Its following episodes were released on July 6, 2022.

On December 18, 2019, it was announced that Soa would make her acting debut as she was announced as part of the cast of the new Netflix series "Sweet Home", adapted from the webtoon of the same name.

In 2022, Soa rose to prominence for her role as a world champion and gold medalist fencer alongside Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk in the tvN drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One. The drama became one of the highest-rated Korean dramas in cable television history.

Later the same year, Soa starred in the Netflix film 20th Century Girl playing the title role as 17-year-old Na Bo-ra in 1999. Within three days of its release, the film debuted at No. 2 on Netflix's global chart of Top 10 non-English language film category for the week of its release, with eight million hours viewed, as well as positive reception to the film's plot.

In 2023, she starred in the Netflix original series Celebrity as Jin Chae-hee.

In 2024, Soa returned to the small screen with 2024 tvN's time slip fantasy drama Lovely Runner.

Personal life

Soa has a two younger brother named Dean, born in 2002, and Ayden, born in 2004.

On May 10, 2024, Dispatch reported that Soa
is in a relationship with co-star Byeon Woo-seok. The two first met on the set of 20th Century Girl, where they played each other's love interest, and began dating in early 2022. They reunited in the drama Lovely Runner in 2024.
