Dear USWNT Fans,
I hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the upcoming matches. As you know, we faced an unexpected challenge with the injury to Carli Lloyd, our esteemed captain. In light of this, we made the decision to hold a vote among the players to determine who would take on the captain's armband for the semi-finals and potentially the finals of the World Cup.
I'm pleased to inform you that we had an overwhelming winner in the vote. However, the player in question has graciously declined the role. As a result, the player with the second most votes will step up as captain for the semi-finals whilst a compromise was made that if and when we advance to the finals, the player who won the vote will take her rightful place as captain.
This decision was made to ensure that both the team and management were fully aligned on who should lead us to victory in the finals. It was not an attempt to appease fans or cater to external pressures. The votes were counted by an independent party to maintain transparency and integrity in the process.
For the semi-final match, I am proud to announce that Megan Rapinoe will lead our team onto the field. Megan's leadership qualities and experience make her an excellent choice to guide us through this crucial stage of the tournament.
Megan, your passion and dedication inspire us all, and I have every confidence in your ability to lead the team with distinction.
Looking ahead to the finals, I am thrilled to reveal that Alexandra Castillo was chosen to be our captain with an overwhelming majority. Alexandra's talent, determination, and leadership on and off the field have not gone unnoticed.
Alexandra, your journey to this moment is a testament to your hard work and perseverance. I want to personally apologize for any shortcomings in the past and assure you that your talent is recognized and valued. You have already made history, and I am honored to be your coach as you continue to do so.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support. Together, let's cheer on our team as we strive for victory in the semi-finals and beyond.
