Jax and Kira hurried through their quarters as alarms blared.

"I can't find my rifle," Jax said as he hurried to grab his gear. "Oh well." He drew his pistols.

Kira looked at Jax with concern, "Are you sure about this? Going into battle without your rifle?" she asked.

Jax shrugged, "I'll manage. Let's focus on the mission."

They quickly made their way to the front lines, taking cover behind a barricade as the battle raged on. Jax's quick reflexes and expert marksmanship allowed him to hold off waves of droids with just his pistols, but Kira couldn't help but worry about his safety.

As they fought side by side, Kira realized she had developed strong feelings for Jax. She had always respected him as a skilled and dedicated soldier, but now she saw him as a brave and compassionate man in a new light.

Jax noticed Kira's gaze and smiled at her. "You're doing great, General," he said, giving her a reassuring nod.

Kira blushed and smiled back at him, feeling a warmth in her chest.

Just then, a group of super battle droids appeared, their heavy artillery trained on Jax and Kira's position. Jax quickly assessed the situation and realized they were outnumbered and outgunned.

"We need to fall back," he said, motioning for Kira to follow him.

Jax knew there wasn't going to be enough time. As Kira had just made it, he put her before himself like usual. He shoved her behind cover as the shell hit.

Kira stumbled and fell, but Jax was there to catch her before she hit the ground. He checked to ensure she was alright before looking up to see the destruction around them. The base was in ruins, and the battle was far from over.

"We need to get out of here." Jax said, gritting his teeth to hide his injuries, "All units, prepare full retreat."

The clone troopers quickly followed Jax's orders, retreating as fast as possible. Jax made sure Kira was safe and followed closely behind his men. As they ran through the battlefield, Jax's mind raced, thinking of ways to protect his battalion and get them out alive.

The sound of blaster fire and explosions filled the air, making it hard to hear anything else. Jax's heart pounded as he led his men to safety. He looked back to see Kira keeping up with him, despite the chaos around them.

Finally, they reached a safe distance from the battlefield. Jax breathed a sigh of relief and looked around to ensure all his men were accounted for. "Is everyone okay?" he asked, scanning the group.

There were a few injuries, but nothing too serious. Jax knew they had been lucky to make it out alive. He turned to Kira and smiled, "You did good back there, General. You kept up with us like a pro."

Kira smiled back at him, "Thanks to you, Commander. I wouldn't have made it without your guidance."

Jax felt a rush of pride and gratitude for Kira. He knew he couldn't have done it without her either.

"Pilot, take us back to the Liberty and tell the ship captain to make the jump to lightspeed!" Jax ordered.

The gunship started lifting off the ground as Jax and Kira made their way to the back of the ship. Jax stumbled a bit, still recovering from his injuries, but Kira was there to support him.

As they reached the back, they saw the planet getting smaller and smaller through the window. The gunship shuddered as it entered the atmosphere and then burst into space. Jax let out a sigh of relief and leaned back against the wall.

Kira looked at Jax, concerned. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Jax gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine. Just a few bruises and burns," he said, gesturing to his armor, which was dinged in places.

Kira nodded, relieved. "Good. I was worried."

Jax chuckled. "You worry too much, General."

Kira rolled her eyes but couldn't help smiling. She was grateful to have Jax by her side.

They entered their quarters, and Jax removed his armor. Kira gasped.

"What happened to you, Jax?" Kira asked concern etched on her face.

"I told you, I'm fine." He smiled.

Kira sighed, "You always put yourself in harm's way for others."

Jax shrugged, "It's just what I do. And I know you'd do the same for me."

Kira nodded, "Of course, I would." She paused for a moment before speaking again. "But I don't want to lose you, Jax. You mean too much to me."

Jax smiled, "I'm not going anywhere, Kira. I promise."

Kira smiled back, feeling comforted by Jax's words. They sat silently for a few moments, enjoying each other's company.

"Kira, come here." Jax could sense her worry.

Kira walked over to Jax, her expression full of concern.

Jax wrapped his arms around her waist. "Hey," he wiped a tear from Kira's face. "You don't ever have to worry. I'll always be there for you. No matter whether it be on the bridge or taking a hit for you." He chuckled, "I will always be a part of you."

Kira looked up at Jax, her eyes filled with gratitude and emotion. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. "Thank you, Jax," she whispered. "I don't know what I would do without you."

Jax hugged her back, his heart swelling with affection. He had never felt this way about anyone before. He realized at that moment that he had fallen deeply in love with Kira.

"I love you, Kira," he said softly, his lips brushing against her forehead.

Kira pulled back slightly, surprised. She looked up at him, her eyes widening in realization. "Jax, I... I love you too," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jax smiled, his heart soaring. He leaned in and kissed her gently, his lips soft and tender. Kira responded eagerly, her arms wrapping tighter around his neck. They broke the kiss after a few moments, both breathing heavily.

"Don't you dare stop," she looked at him as their kiss broke.

Jax chuckled, "I don't plan on stopping anytime soon." He leaned in to kiss Kira again, his hands gently caressing her face. As they kissed, all the worries and stresses of the war seemed to melt away, and they were just two people enjoying each other's company.

After a few moments, Jax pulled away slightly and looked into Kira's eyes. "You know, I've wanted to do that for a long time," he said with a smile.

Kira smiled back, "Me too."

Jax leaned in for another kiss, but this time it was interrupted by a loud knock on the door.

"General Damaris, Commander Jax, we're having a problem on the bridge," a voice called out.

Jax sighed, "Duty calls," he said as he stood up and began putting his armor back on.

Kira nodded, "I'll see you on the bridge."

As Jax left the room, Kira couldn't help but feel a sense of happiness and contentment. She knew that the war was far from over and that they would face many more challenges in the future, but as long as she had Jax by her side, she knew they could overcome anything.
